Time Saves Lives, Consolidate Communications Centers

CONSOLIDATING COMMUNICATION CENTERS

The town of Lisbon just approved the purchase of state of the art furniture for the Lisbon Communication Center and the Androscoggin County Commissioners approved funding for the upgrade of the communications equipment in the Androscoggin County Dispatch Center.  What a perfect time to set aside petty territorial battles and consolidate the two communications centers. 
 

Just think of the advantages in this opportunity.  This would enable the County to have state of the art equipment and furniture in one central location.  This would eliminate the current requirement to relay 911 calls to the Lisbon Communication Center to dispatch First Responders.  Eliminating this step would streamline the process and increase the response time.  When a life or death situation occurs time is vital to one’s survival and streamlining the process only increases the chance of saving lives   I believe saving lives should be the number one priority of everyone involved. 

Consolidating these two communication centers at this time is the right course of action and will save a great deal of money in the long run.   The Lisbon Communication Center is capable of this consolidation BUT it is critical this consolidated communication center remain under the initial control of the Androscoggin County Commissioners.  This is a County function and should be the responsibility of the County to maintain.
