Joins Global Effort Celebrating Late Nobel Laureate
PORTLAND,
Maine – Milton Friedman, recognized as the greatest economist of the
last century, will be the focal point at numerous events nationwide and
around the world on July 31. The Maine Heritage Policy Center is
participating in the annual “Friedman Legacy Day” to highlight the late
professor’s famous ideas, including school choice.
"The Maine Heritage Policy Center is proud to host Choosing Success: Empowering Parents to Advocate for Greater Educational Opportunities
as part of this year’s Friedman Legacy Day,” said Jonathan Haines,
communications director for The Maine Heritage Policy Center. “MHPC is
dedicated to furthering school choice for all families by empowering
parents with the knowledge and tools they need to be strong advocates
for greater educational opportunities for their children.”
“There
is a close relationship between school choice and economic freedom –
two principles that MHPC is proud to champion,” said Haines. “It is this
relationship that is at the heart of the educational model that
symbolizes Dr. Milton Friedman’s legacy.”
An
advisor to several U.S. presidents, Milton Friedman won the Nobel Prize
in economics in 1976 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1988. The
author of such books as “Capitalism and Freedom” also is well known for
his appearance on the popular PBS series “Free to Choose.” He is
considered the “father” of the all-volunteer army and school choice.
“In
education alone, today Milton Friedman’s ideas are positively impacting
thousands of Americans,” said Robert Enlow, president and CEO of the
Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice. “Calls for more personal
empowerment and choice can be attributed to Dr. Friedman. And it’s
groups like The Maine Heritage Policy Center that keep Milton Friedman’s
 legacy alive.”
