A Reader Brings Out An Interesting Perspective

Part of a blog in the Portland Press Herald on Friday.

One of the PCA's that spends the night with my mother-in-law couldn't make it the other night. She ended up taking her 'very sick' 7-year old to the ER. The doctors couldn't figure it out, as it appeared that he had several things wrong with him. His mother demanded that that do blood work on him. When the results came back, they showed that he had Measles, Mumps, and another childhood disease (I don't remember which one). His mother told the doctor that he has had all his shots, so how could he have those three - and all at the same time. Well the doctors thought that maybe they were false positives and told her to bring him back in the AM. She brought him back, they drew blood, and it came back with the same three diseases.

Her son goes to a public school for children with disabilities (which is still in session), so she felt she should warn the school. They felt it important enough to have all the children tested. Guess what? The only child with the same illnesses was a male Somalian. She questioned the school personnel stating that she understood that all school children were supposed to have shots before being enrolled in school. She was told that Somalian children were exempt (they don't have to have shots, I'm not sure whether it's American shots, or any shots) due to religious reasons. It appears that these are stronger strains than what we would normally have in this country.

So, we can take all these people in, but again they don't have to comply with our standards, they can just bring in their childhood diseases, Aids, and anything else they want to bring in - including their driving habits, and we're supposed to accept it{?}. I've got to be missing something from the old method in which people came into this country and the new way they are coming in{????}.

Note: I see in today's paper that Afghan Muslims are suing Portland (I believe the ACLU is doing it) because they wouldn't allow them the use of a building for a mosque.

California Car Show July 2009 Check It Out!

"Most of you will recognize this car, it is the 1971 Dodge Challenger from the first season of "Overhaulin". This car was indeed "Overhauled" but it still needed a few minor things addressed after the show so it came to ICON afterward. The 383 and automatic transmission were removed and a stout 440 big block was built to be installed". More>>

Here's What The Pro's On Health Care Are Saying

Dear Reader,

A lot of angry, over-the-top rhetoric is muddying our discussion of health care reform. To help clear things up, here’s a brief summary of President Obama’s plan, including how it will stop insurance company abuses and help you—even if you currently have a strong health benefits plan.

  • Health care reform will stop insurance company abuses.
    • Insurance companies won’t be able to refuse to pay a claim or give you coverage because of “pre-existing” conditions.
    • Your out-of-pocket expenses will be capped. No more going broke because of a serious illness or injury.
    • Insurance companies won’t be allowed to charge women higher rates than men or drop you if you get sick.
    • Insurance companies will have to cover your children until age 26 instead of dumping them at 19.
  • Health care reform will hold down rising costs.
    • A public health insurance option will force private insurers to compete and will lower costs for everyone.
    • By requiring companies to pay their fair share, we’ll stop them from dumping their health care costs on the rest of us.
  • Health reform means affordable care will be there for you, no matter what. If you lose your job, or your kid loses his. If you get sick. When you retire. Affordable health care will be there for you, no matter what. That means you and your family can’t fall through the cracks and won’t go broke because of health care bills.

For more information about how health care reform can help you and for answers to many of the common questions about President Obama’s plan, check out this new web resource from the White House.

We are so close to real reform, but getting over the finish line will be a battle. We are up against giant insurance companies, a Republican Party that wants President Obama to fail and the corporate media like Fox and Rush Limbaugh.

The reality is that health care costs are spiraling out of control, and everyone in America deserves quality and affordable care. Health care reform simply can’t wait. We will all be better off with real reform.

Thank you for everything you do, and please forward this e-mail far and wide.

Wonder What Maine Would Do?

Here's some reading to get yah thinkin'...

THE COUNTRY of TEXOARKLA

In case things get a little tougher during the next few months,
we In LOUISIANA, TEXAS , OKLAHOMA & ARKANSAS have a plan.

Maybe you don't know it, but LOUISIANA , TEXAS , OKLAHOMA , &
ARKANSAS have a legal right to secede from the Union . (Reference the
Texas/Louisiana-American Annexation Treaty of 1848.)

Us TEXOARKLANS love y'all Americans, but we'll probably have to
take action since Barack Obama won the election and is now the
President of the U.S.A. We'll miss ya'll though.

Here is what can happen:

1. Barack Hussein Obama, after becoming the President of the
United States , begins to try and create a socialist country, then
TEXAS , LOUISIANA , ARKANSAS and OKLAHOMA announces that they are
going to secede from the Union .

2. George W. Bush becomes the President of the Republic of
TEXOARKLA .. You might think that he doesn't talk too pretty, but we
haven't had another te
rrorist attack and the economy was fine until the
effects of Barney Frank and the Democrats lowering the qualifications
for home loans came home to roost.

So what does TEXOARKLA have to do to survive as a Republic?

1. NASA is just south of Houston , Texas . We will control the
space industry.

2. We refine over 90% of the gasoline in the United States .

3. Defense Industry--we have over 65% of it. The term "Don't
mess with TEXAS ," will take on a whole new meaning.

4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of
TEXOARKLA will need for the next 300 years. What will the other states
do? Gee, we don't know. Why not ask Obama?

5. Natural Gas - again, we have all we need and it's too bad
about those Northern States. John Kerry and Al Gore will just have to
figure out a way to keep them warm...

6. Computer Industry - we lead the nation in producing computer
chips and communications equipment - small companies like Texas
Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semicond
uctor,
Motorola, Intel, AMD, Nortel, Alcatel, etc. The list goes on and on.

7. Medical Care - We have the research centers for cancer
research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world,
as well as other large health centers.

8. We have enough colleges to keep educating and making smarter
citizens: University of Texas , Texas A&M, Texas Tech, University of
Oklahoma , Oklahoma State University, UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe,
University of Arkansas , LSU, Arkansas State University , Baylor, Rice,
TCU, SMU and MANY more.

9. We have an intelligent and energetic work force and it isn't
restricted by a bunch of unions. Here in TEXOARKLA, we are a
Right-to-Work State and, therefore, it's every man and woman for
themselves. We just go out and get the job done.. And if we don't like
the way one company operates, we get a job somewhere else.

10. We have essential control of the paper, plastics, and
insurance industries, etc.

11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the TEXOARKLA
National Guard, the TEXOARKLA Air National Guard, and several military
bases. We don't have an Army, but since everybody20down here has at
least six guns and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if
we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the
Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over the Texas Rangers.

12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and
several types of grain, fruit and vegetables and let's not forget
seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook
them so that they taste good. We don't need any food from somewhere
else.

13. FIVE of the ten largest cities in the United States and
THIRTY TWO of the 100 largest cities in the United States are located
in TEXOARKLA. And TEXOARKLA also has more land than California , New
York , New Jersey , Connecticut , Delaware , Hawaii , Massachusetts ,
Maryland , Rhode Island and Vermont combined.

14. Trade: FIVE of the ten largest ports in the United States
are located in TEXOARKLA.

15. We also manufacture cars down here, but we don't need to.
You see, nothing rusts in TEXOARKLA so our vehicles stay beautiful and
run well for decades.

This just names a20few of the items that will keep the Republic
of TEXOARKLA in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need
and don't have.

Now to the rest of you folks in the United States under
President Obama:

Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars,
only President Obama will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg
SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.

You won't have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut
off satellite communications.

You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Al
Gore has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas as long as
you survive the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global
Warming.

In other words, the rest of ya'll in the USA are screwed!

Signed, The People of TEXOARKLA

P.S. This is not a threatening letter - just a note to give you
something to think about!

Sleep well tonight 'cause the eyes of TEXOARKLA are20on YOU!!

Here's Wishing Everyone A Safe Weekend! Pray For Calif. Fire Fighters & Residents

"BONNY DOON — More than 2,000 people have been evacuated. More than 1,000 structures are threatened. And a steady stream of cars continue to make their way down the mountain as residents are forced to flee their homes, some for the second time in 14 months.

Tensions are running high in the Santa Cruz Mountains as smoke billows from the ridges and ashes cover the ground carried by a southerly wind.

About 2,200 people have been told to leave their homes. Sheriff's deputies are going door to door in Bonny Doon to get people out." More....

Happy Friday! Enjoy The Great Weather!

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery.........if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor". But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...........they "didn't have a pot to piss in" & were the lowest of the low

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it , think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the 1500s:

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June.. However, since they were starting to smell . .. . brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!"

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip an and fall off the roof. Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, "Dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way. Hence: a thresh hold.
(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme: Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old.

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special.. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a dead ringer...

And that's the truth...Now, whoever said History was boring ! ! !

So .. . . get out there and educate someone! ~~~ Share these facts with a friend like I just did! ! !

Now Here's A Good One!

"Report: Cheney felt Bush stopped taking his advice
Thursday, August 13, 2009 8:37 AM

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney believes his old boss, President George W. Bush, gradually turned away from his advice during their second term in the White House, showing a surprising independence as he started taking more flexible positions on a range of issues, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

What is new, Hannah said, is Cheney's readiness to acknowledge "doubts about the main channels of American policy during the last few years," a period encompassing most of Bush's second term."

The State Of Maine's Attorney General Office

Maine Attorney General Duties and Powers of the Office

The duties of the Attorney General are established by the Maine Revised Statutes Annotated, Title 5, Chapter 9. These statutes direct the attorney General to discharge various responsibilities, including representing the State and its agencies in civil actions; prosecuting claims to recover money for the State; investigating and prosecuting homicides and other crimes; consulting with and advising the district attorneys; enforcing proper application of funds given to public charities in the State; and giving written opinions upon questions of law submitted by the Governor, Legislature, or state agencies. The Attorney General may appoint deputy and assistant attorneys general, all of whom serve at the pleasure of the Attorney General. In addition to these statutory powers, the Attorney General is vested with certain other powers deriving from the Office's common law powers.

The leading case on the powers and duties of the Attorney General is Superintendent of Insurance v. Attorney General, 558 A.2d 1197 (Me.1989). The essential principle stated by the Court in this landmark decision is that the Attorney General possesses constitutional and common law authority, independent of the agencies represented by the Office that may be exercised by the Attorney General in the public interest.
Office Organization

The Maine Office of the Attorney General is organized into 13 divisions. Each division is supervised by a chief attorney or other professional. The Attorney General is assisted in his management of the Office by a Chief Deputy Attorney General and a Chief Operating Officer. Get more information about the structure and work of the Office.

Continuing Legal Education

The Maine Office of the Attorney General sponsors continuing legal education programs several times a year in Augusta. The programs are presented primarily for the legal staff of the Maine Office of the Attorney General. However, many programs are open to the legal staff of the District Attorneys Offices and attorneys employed by the State of Maine, as well as private attorneys if space is available. How Will The Closing Of BNAS Affect Lisbon?

Who said it was a Box?

Submitted by: Todd Comber

At a time in our society when we are at war, the closing of the Brunswick Naval Air Station, (scheduled for 2011), just doesn't make a whole lot of 'Defensive' sense. But then it doesn't make any sense that at 18 years of age we can send our children off to war and possibly die, and they have to be 21 to 'legally' drink an alcoholic beverage. Remember, you voted for those who passed that one and these, mandatory seat belts, headlights on w/Wipers etc.

Good grief. Why do we have to regulate everything? Can't we be responsible for ourselves?
I think that until a person is of legal age we do need to protect them from certain problems that can be avoided, ie. child restraint seats, keeping kids buckled up and so on.

But getting back to my point. Lisbon will be affected severely by the effects of BNAS leaving.

Maine once was a powerhouse in strategic defense.

Over time, (at least my time period), we watched, the high & mighty Air Force pull out of Limestone, technology advance to keep us more safe,
ie. stealth technology, and we viewed the economic uncertainties unravel and realign themselves. And I am talking about the other Maine, you know North of Augusta.

Generations of families reeducated themselves to be productive in an ever changing work climate if they wanted to stay, but most left as they were in the military.
Still some are waiting for the government bailout.

This area of Maine will be no different. It will readjust and people will be employed in 'other' technology based professions.

But What about the uncertainty that seems to be talked about at every coffee shop, mom & pop store, country diner, etc. With All the, Health Care, Birth Certificate, Bailouts, Clunking Cash, (and I say that because that is what the printing presses in D.C. are starting to sound like) issues Something doesn't seem right.

Take the aspect of the 'Sub Hunters' leaving Brunswick and Russian Subs patrolling the East Coast. What? Surprised? You ought to be.
Main stream media isn't interested in bringing it to you.
Read the following it happened over a week ago.

"Russian Subs Patrolling Off East Coast of U.S.

WASHINGTON — A pair of nuclear-powered Russian attack submarines has been patrolling off the eastern seaboard of the United States in recent days, a rare mission that has raised concerns inside the Pentagon and intelligence agencies about a more assertive stance by the Russian military.

The episode has echoes of the cold war era, when the United States and the Soviet Union regularly parked submarines off each other’s coasts to steal military secrets, track the movements of their underwater fleets — and be poised for war. " Read more....

So, is it just a coincidence? Who Knows?

Will we be more safe with our trust in technology, ie. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, patrolling the waters looking for those that want to bring harm to us? That technology is great!

I certainly am hoping so.

As I see it, we are in a crucial point in the history of our country. The ink is still wet. Each day affords another page to be written. Now you ask what is my point?

Getting back to Lisbon. There is no way possible for the citizens of this community that have not left already, to NOT be affected with the base closing. Less people around to support businesses, pay taxes will mean either less services or higher taxes for the community. And quite possibly BOTH.

JUST look at the great Example set by the State and Federal Governments.

So why don't we start preparing now by curtailing needless spending?

Oh, and about the box thing,,, The World Is Round. O!!!!!

One Reader's Perspective Presented

Posted By Anthony F Riordan Jr.

Only 2 states have opposed the DOD war emergency powers act which will block the WHO and US Government from controlling the ARMY inside these states.
Also Tennessee has blocked the US government from coming in and disarming the public in Martial law incident.

NOW why in god's name would all these states be blocking Martial Law actions now?

Why would the fear of states and the WHO coming into our communities be of any concern to you and I?

IF you are not aware, according to a law passed by President Bush in 2005, during a Pandemic that is at level 6, the WHO will take control of all country's under treaty with the UN. They will have the right to use force, use foreign troops on our lands.

NOW how did this happen?

Not because of just Bush, this started in 1962 and step by step a process leading to this day has been planned.
IF you do not believe me, start the research into the hidden groups that have financially controlled out country, the world, the UN, the fed/reserve, the international banks etc...
Look up the actions and beliefs of the club of Rome. Look up the fight the Rand Corporation has waged since the 50's. Look up the USURY laws destruction under Jimmy Carter and how it was meant to slowly break down and be part of the war against the middle class of America.

IF our shadow government, our current government and other people throughout the world wanted the US to stay strong and keep the highest standard of living in the World, the war waged against our middle class and its middle class jobs, industry etc... would not have been allowed to happen throughout the 70's, 80's and into the 90's. We have become a service industry of a culture that wants to spend, spend, spend.

We have been almost beaten, as of today and, the only consolation to this war is that they are about 9 years behind on their plans but with the WHO, NAZI 2nd generation methodologies being used today, we are about to lose unless governors and sheriff's protect our states and counties one at a time.

Who will stand up for the constitution?

Ask your local police to swear an oath to the constitution and see if they are willing to put their life on the line to truly protect what they were hired for.

Control of State's Armies In Question

"Governors oppose DoD emergency powers

A bipartisan pair of governors is opposing a new Defense Department proposal to handle natural and terrorism-related disasters, contending that a murky chain of command could lead to more problems than solutions.

Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas (R), chairman of the National Governors Association, and Vice Chairman Gov. Joe Manchin (D) of West Virginia penned a letter opposing the Pentagon proposal, which they said would hinder a state's effort to respond to a disaster."

We Continue To Bring Information To You

"The House of Representatives rammed through the mind blowing 1500 page American Clean Energy Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2454) on June 26th, 2009. The last 300 pages had just been written the night before. No one had seen it. There wasn't even a copy on the floor of the House. Yet, it is the most expensive, intrusive, job destroying, economically damaging bill ever considered in the history of the US. The US Senate is going to consider it in early fall. This is one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation ever considered by Congress. Watch our short 4-5 minute videos. Go to www.nocapandtrade.us for more information."

Sovereignty International has just released two 4-5 minute videos explaining why the U.S. Senate should NOT pass the cap and trade legislation before them this fall. This is very dangerous legislation that will radically reduce our standard of living and freedom – forever. As these videos show, this legislation is not even necessary. This will be a surprise to those that believe what the media is saying, but emerging science is now clearly showing that mankind cannot be causing global warming and that increasing carbon dioxide is generally a very good thing. Keep checking YouTube. More of these videos will be produced as funding allows.

Two "must view" YouTube videos

Carbon Footprint: Perverts the Real Importance of Carbon Dioxide

This legislation is so dangerous, it must be stopped. We ask that you forward this email to your mailing list so others can begin to understand the danger it poses and then go to www.congress.org to write or call your Senator and politely, but firmly, tell them that they should not vote yes on this legislation, or you will not vote for them in their next reelection. Enjoying Maine In The Summer

What's This, Someone Looking Outside The Box?

"Cianbro CEO pushes 'bold' economic plan

Peter Vigue of Pittsfield stirs speculation that he'll run for governor of Maine next year.
By SCOTT MONROE, Morning Sentinel

WATERVILLE — Flanked by a large photo of his four grandchildren, Peter G. Vigue on Monday addressed about 100 people at the Waterville Rotary Club, outlining his grand vision for transforming Maine's economy.

Text on the photo read, "It's all about people." For Vigue, the implication was clear: He's pushing proposals he hopes will improve the future for coming generations.

"What will the future hold for the next 20, 25 years? It's not very promising; we need the infrastructure," Vigue said. And, in an apparent swipe at current state policies, he added, "We need to come up with creative strategies and approaches and stop this business of taking it off the backs of the people of this state.""

A Response From AARP Regarding Proposed Healthcare Changes

Priorities of AARP's health care reform efforts:

Keep what you have: Allow Americans who like their doctor and their
plan to keep what they have.
Guarantee affordable coverage: Guarantee Americans ages 50-64 a
choice of affordable, quality health care plans regardless of age or
pre-existing condition;
Lower Prescription Costs: Close the Medicare Part D "doughnut hole"
and lower drug costs so people in Medicare can afford the medications
they need.
Improve Care: Enhance quality so all Americans have peace of mind
that comes with good care.

AARP Endorses:

Medicare Part D Doughnut Hole Assistance - to enable those who must
pay for their entire prescription (in the doughnut hole) to better
afford their medication
Closing doughnut hole completely over time.
Proposals to prohibit insurance companies from denying you insurance
based on your health status, and to prevent insurance companies from
charging you much higher premiums based on you
Subsidies to Americans who would otherwise be unable to afford
coverage

AARP Does Not Endorse:

AARP has not yet endorsed any comprehensive health care reform bill.
AARP is fighting for a solution that improves health care for all our
members. We have been working with leaders from both sides of the
aisle for many, many months, and we will continue to do so. We know
that the final package will include a mix of ideas from both parties
and both houses of Congress.

Current Myths:

AARP Endorses Bills that Ration Care for Seniors (also known as
Comparative Effectiveness Research)

Absolutely not. AARP will fight, with everything we've got, any
attempt to prevent a doctor or hospital from giving the best possible
care to all their patients.

Comparative Effectiveness Research

Some opponents of health reform are badly distorting the truth on
"comparative effectiveness research.
This is a long name for a simple thing: researching two or more
treatments so you can decide which option will keep you healthier.
This research is done all the time - both by government agencies and
by the private sector (like pharmaceutical companies and health
plans). All the legislation would do is to provide additional funding
for more independent research. No part of this bill will prevent your
doctor from prescribing the treatments that are most appropriate for
you.

AARP Supports Mandatory End of Life Counseling for all Seniors

This myth is a misleading and cruel scare tactic. AARP believes that
individuals should have the ability to speak with their doctors in
advance about difficult choices every family must make when a loved
one nears the end for their life. AARP supports compensating doctors
for taking the time to talk to individuals about difficult end-of
life care decisions.
It's entirely up to the doctor and patient whether this counseling
takes place, and completely up to patients whether they take steps
based on the counseling to put their end-of-life wishes into legal
documents.

AARP Supports Medicare Cuts

AARP believes that any health care reform legislation should result
in a better and stronger Medicare program for current and future
beneficiaries not in a Medicare program that delivers less than
today.
The proposed changes to Medicare will help to get fraud, waste and
abuse out of the system and create payment incentives to reward
doctors and hospitals for the quality, rather than the quantity, of
care they provide. They will not cut the benefits our members rely on
in the traditional Medicare program, but will help to keep it
affordable to make sure you get the care you need.
AARP knows that there are ways to eliminate wasteful spending and
inefficiencies from Medicare - such as reducing preventable hospital
readmissions or overpayments to private insurance companies - that
will actually improve care and strengthen the program. For example,
we support adding a follow-up care benefit in Medicare that will help
individuals safely transition home after a hospital stay.
We want to make certain that any Medicare savings proposals will
reduce beneficiaries' health care costs so that our members realize
real savings in their own out-of-pocket spending, which has been
increasing at a rapid rate.

AARP Supports Higher Income Medicare Beneficiaries to Pay Higher
Premiums

No. We share our members' concerns about the President's proposal to
once again ask higher income beneficiaries to pay higher premiums,
this time for the Medicare Prescription Drug Program.
Higher income seniors already pay more for Medicare Part B, and
contribute more in taxes to the program. Asking seniors to pay more
is not a solution to the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs.
Rather than shift more costs to seniors, AARP urges that we do more
to reduce the soaring increases in health care and drug costs (e.g.,
biologics, more generic use, importation, and drug price
negotiation).

AARP Supports Providing Health Care for Illegal Immigrants

While AARP believes the government must enforce our immigration
laws, we're focused on lowering health care costs and ensuring our
members have access to affordable care. A critical component of our
health care agenda is ensuring that everyone who receives health care
in America pays their fair share.
No health care reform proposal currently under discussion by
Congress gives health care to illegal immigrants with taxpayer
dollars

AARP Endorses the Current Obama Health Care Reform
BillHealthActionNow.org

As of July 2009, AARP has *not* endorsed any comprehensive health
care reform legislation yet [not withstanding what media may say].
While AARP does not support all of the President's ideas like
income-relating Part D premiums we are committed to reforming the
health care system for all Americans.
We will fight with the strength of our 40 million members against
any policy that unfairly burdens Americans 50-plus.
Although the answer to HCR is still open, AARP realized that if we
do nothing, the average family health premium will nearly double
within ten years. That's why our country cannot afford to keep our
broken health care system; the cost of doing nothing is too

I hope this information is helpful.

Well, This Ought To Make Everbody Feel Safer, NOT!

The White House, now says the War On Terror Is Over. Locked and Loaded for My Own Families Safety. The rest of you 'sheeple' are on your own.

White House: 'War on terrorism' is over

'Jihadists' and 'global war' no longer acceptable terms

It's official. The U.S. is no longer engaged in a "war on terrorism." Neither is it fighting "jihadists" or in a "global war."

President Obama's top homeland security and counterterrorism official took all three terms off the table of acceptable words inside the White House during a speech Thursday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington think tank.

"The President does not describe this as a 'war on terrorism,'" said John Brennan, head of the White House homeland security office, who outlined a "new way of seeing" the fight against terrorism.

The only terminology that Mr. Brennan said the administration is using is that the U.S. is "at war with al Qaeda."

"We are at war with al Qaeda," he said. "We are at war with its violent extremist allies who seek to carry on al Qaeda's murderous agenda."

Sotomayor confirmed by Senate Vote

Senate confirms Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, 68-31

Similar stories:

McClatchy Newspapers

The Senate on Wednesday voted 68-31 to confirm veteran federal appellate judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court, and on Saturday she'll become the court's first Hispanic justice.

Sotomayor, 55, was touted during three days of Senate debate as an American success story. Raised in a Bronx, N.Y., public housing project by her widowed mother, she had a stellar academic career and served as a federal prosecutor, trial judge and appellate court judge before President Barack Obama made her his first Supreme Court choice.

At the White House, Obama hailed the vote, saying, "These core American ideals - justice, equality and opportunity - are the very ideals that have made Judge Sotomayor's own uniquely American journey possible. They're ideals she's fought for throughout her career, and the ideals the Senate has upheld today in breaking yet another barrier and moving us yet another step closer to a more perfect union."

He said he was "very happy" that she got 68 votes.

Watchout For What You Are Being Charged For

http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/cheating.asp

This apparently is a mixture of true and false statements. But the message is clear. Don't take things for granted. Check, recheck, and triple check that what you got is what you are paying for.

~ CHEATING AT THE GAS PUMPS ~

(PRINT OUT YOUR RECEIPTS!!!)

This email was sent to me by a friend whose cousin is the Lewiston fire captain.

This is true. It happened to them three weeks ago somewhere in Lewiston on
our way to Augusta. The pump should have totaled @ $38.00 (and change).
When the receipt was printed, and she checked it was $ 47.00 (and change).

She got mad, went inside the store, asked for a calculator and let them
do the math. They refunded her. she told them that if they cheat, they
had better make it right. Normally, her husband would skip printing the
receipt.. Not her

We saw on the news the other night that this is happening everywhere.

Brian pumped exactly one gallon of gas The price did not match the cost
of one gallon It was higher. He went inside and complained, got a refund.

There is also a number on each pump that you can call and complain..

This is a true story, so read it carefully.

On March 24, 2009, I stopped at a gas station in Lewiston. My truck's gas
gauge was on 1/4 of a tank. I use the mid-grade, which was priced at
$2.21 per gallon. When my tank is at this point, it takes somewhere
around 14 gallons to fill it up.

When the pump showed 14 gallons had been pumped, I began to slow it down.
Then, to my surprise , it went to 15, then 16. I even looked under my
truck to see if it was being spilled. It was not.

Then it showed 17 gallons on the pump. It stopped at 18 gallons. This was
very strange to me, since my truck has only an 18 gallon tank. I went on
my way a little confused, then on the evening news I heard a report that
1 out of 4 gas stations had calibrated their pumps to show more gas had
been pumped than a person actually got.

Here is how to check a pump to see if you are getting the right amount:

Whichever grade you are using, put EXACTLY 10 GALLONS in your tank, then
look at the dollar amount. If the dollar amount is not EXACTLY 10 times
the price of the fuel you have chosen, then the pumps are rigged.

In my case, as I said, the mid-grade was $2.21 9/10 per gallon; my dollar
amount for 10 gallons should have been $22.19. I wish I had checked the
pump. It doesn't matter where you pump gas, please check the 10 gall on
price. If you do find a station that is cheating, contact the state
Agriculture Department, and direct your comments to the Commissioner, the
info i s on the gas pumps.

Please don't delete this until you have sent it to all people in your
address book. We need to put a stop to this outrageous cheating of
customers. The gas companies are making enough profits at honest rates.

BANGOR, Maine — As a student in the Bangor area, Old Town native Aron Gaudet now estimates he saw hundreds of movies at the theater complex located near the Bangor Mall.

Next month, Gaudet’s successful documentary about three senior citizens who serve as troop greeters at Bangor International Airport will open for a theatrical run at the very cinema where Gaudet spent so much time as a youngster.

The award-winning “The Way We Get By” will play at the Bangor Mall Cinemas 10 for one week starting Friday, Sept. 11. Times have yet to be determined, but the trailer for the movie will play in the weeks leading up to the opening.

Flying High & Proud Librarians Sit On A Hot Roof

A summer reading program that began June 23 and ended August 1 sent a couple local librarians to the roof next door.

Jo-Jean Keller and Diane Nadeau Proudly Keeping Their Promise.

What began as a challenge for summer readers at the Lisbon Falls Community Library, quickly turned into reality for Jo-Jean Keller and Diane Nadeau as they "proudly" hold up their end of the deal by sitting on the Lisbon Falls Fire Station Roof. It was a team effort, by ALL personnel at the Library Diane quickly points out, to get Lisbon's youth to read more. The staff challenged the eager readers by stipulating that if they read more books than last year's program Diane and Jo-Jean would sit on the roof of the Fire Station for an afternoon. Both agreed that after the program began it was at about week 4 they realized that sitting on the roof next door was going to happen.

Last year the summer readers read 1221 books, and this year the children read 1460. Readers ranged in ages from 5-14 years old comprising almost 200 participants in the Summer Reading Program. Some of the 'hot' topics this year were Science, Technology, and Animals in books that the Library purchased. The new books were an inspiration in themselves with beautiful photos and updated information.

During the weekly visits, which were Tuesday afternoons from 1pm to 5pm, staff at the Library would read to the group creating a well rounded learning experience. Their progress was kept track of on a graph were it was visible for each to see their own progress. Many of the summer readers improved their reading skills dramatically, enough that Diane and Jo-Jean both agreed that when school starts the teachers will even notice.

Great Effort Everybody!

Congratulations and Thank You All.

U. S. Postal Service Goes Up On Fees And Down On Service

Gov't FAILURE: U.S. Postal Service may close 67% of its largest branches

From CoStar Group:

The news of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) closures has been trickling out in local communities. But a closer examination behind the reports finds the potential for a major flood of closings. The Postal Service sent a notice to American Postal Workers Union executives this summer that it was considering consolidation options in every major metro market in the country and would consider closing 3,243 of its 4,851 largest branches and centers in the review process. The markets have been identified...

Would You Like To Read Faster?

How to read 300% faster in 20 minutes

By Tim Ferriss in Four Hour Work Week Blog:

How much more could you get done if you completed all of your required reading in 1/3 or 1/5 the time?

Increasing reading speed is a process of controlling fine motor movement-period.

This post is a condensed overview of principles I taught to undergraduates at Princeton University in 1998 at a seminar called the “PX Project”. The below was written several years ago, so it’s worded like Ivy-Leaguer pompous-ass prose, but the results are substantial. In fact, while on an airplane in China two weeks ago, I helped Glenn McElhose increase his reading speed 34% in less than 5 minutes.

I have never seen the method fail. Here’s how it works...
