Attorney's Advice ---- no charge

ATTORNEY'S ADVICE - NO CHARGE
Not A Joke!!   Even If you dislike attorneys..You will love them for these tips..

Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company:

1. Do not sign  the back of your credit cards. Instead, put 'PHOTO ID REQUIRED..'

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts,  DO  NOT
put the complete  account number on the 'For' line. Instead, just put the  last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a
PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never  have your  SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have It printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.
I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a Name, address, Social Security number, credit cards..

Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have first hand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieves ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more.
But here's some critical
information to limit the damage  in case this happens to you or someone you know:

5. We have been told we should  cancel our  credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

6..  File a  police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps  most important of all: (I never even thought to do this...)
7. Call  the  3 national credit reporting organizations  immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number.. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit..

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks..

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, if it has been stolen:

1.) Equifax:  1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW):  1-888-397-3742

3.) Trans Union :  1-800-680 7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):
 1-800-269-0271

We pass along jokes on the Internet; we pass along just about everything.

If you are willing to pass this information along, it could really help someone that you care about.

Geezer Pride

GEEZER PRIDE!!!!

I'm passing this on as I did not want to be the only geezer receiving it.
Actually, it's not a bad thing to be called as you will see....

'Geezers' are easy to spot: At sporting events, during the playing of the Star Spangled BANNER. Old Geezers remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them.

Old Geezers remember the Depression, World War II, Pearl Harbor , Guadalcanal , Normandy and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War 1950-55, The Cold War, the jet age and the moon landing, the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005 the Jet Age and the Moon Landing, not to mention Vietnam .

If you bump into an Old Geezer On the sidewalk he will apologize. If you pass an Old Geezer on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady.. Old Geezers trust strangers and are courtly to women. Old Geezers hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection. Old Geezers get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth on TV or in movies or in e-mails.
Old Geezers have moral courage. They seldom brag unless it's about their grandchildren.

It's the Old Geezers who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.

This country needs Old Geezers with their decent values.
We need them now more than ever..

Thank God for Old Geezers!
Pass this on to all the Old Geezers you know.

Read what the Christian Post has to say about Not Evil Just Wrong

"Not Evil Just Wrong'

What’s Really at Stake with Global Warming

Global warming is a fact of life. Not a fact in a scientific sense. Far from it. But a fact in that it is an issue-an issue that will shape public policy, international relations, and the economies of the world for decades to come.
An eye-opening documentary called Not Evil Just Wrong: The True Cost of Global Warming Hysteria is being released this week by the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation-an outfit I endorse."

Not Evil Just Wrong is going to livestream global warming debate‏

"Not Evil Just Wrong is the film Al Gore and Hollywood don't want you to see. It reveals the true human cost of Global Warming hysteria.

Not Evil Just Wrong shows how Global Warming alarmism and the tax increases that go along with it are going to increase costs for working families during one of the worst recessions in living memory.

Al Gore and his allies want to ban fossil fuels in the developed world. This would devastate the American economy and drive jobs to India and China.

Be part of the resistance. With your help we can bypass the barriers to distribution that Hollywood and the mainstream media put up to stop you from hearing the truth.

Be part of the premiere night by hosting a screening in your home, community center or church. Be part of the cinematic tea party movement and tell Al Gore and the elites that you are fed up with taxes and restrictions that threaten jobs across the country"

Information on Lisbon's Trail System

Submitted by  Justin                  Posted as submitted

Q: What is the Lisbon Trail System?

A: The Lisbon Trail System is the result of 10 years dedicated volunteer and community involvement.  The physical trail exists as one length and as many different features.  The 5 miles of trail feature local downtown trail heads, rural farm land, deeply wooded forest, exceptional river views and linked to area schools.

Sabatus River from trail in October.

Q: Who are involved in building this trail system?

A: Local community support and local government as well as participants from away have built this trail system.   Lisbon citizens have always provided the key to the success of this trail. success being continued use and interest in maintenance as well as identifying enhancements.  Trail commission volunteers surveying participants have noticed over 50% of people using the trail are from out of town.  The Lisbon Trail Commission is a 7 person commission that holds public meetings every fourth Wednesday at the town offices, 7pm to 9pm.

Q: Where are the different sections of trail?

A: The most northerly terminus is located at the Webster St. bridge in Lisbon Village.  Continuing .5 miles south on Upland Rd. you reach Ricker Farm Trail.  At the corner of Upland and Mill rd. the Ricker Farm Trail traverses .75 miles of farm land dotted by 25 red maples.  After one road crossing and entering into the Lisbon Community School entrance you reach the Paper Mill Trail.  This highly used section of trail winds through deeply wooded forest along the Sabatuss River.  Exceptional river views are seen the entire length.  At the parking lot and boat launch this trail continues under the bridge and south along the Androscoggin River ending in Lisbon Falls.  Construction of this final section is possible with monies awarded by the Maine DOT.  A November 3rd Vote on Bond Question 1 will approve the acceptance of this money.

Q: When will the entire Lisbon Trail System be completed?

A: It is feasible to have completed construction of all sections of trail within a few years.  The commission has received a
grant for 1.3 million to complete the trail and needs to raise $320,000 for match. Once this match is approved by Lisbon citizens, the trail can be completed.  It is possible to raise additional funds to decrease the amount Lisbon will match.  This opportunity will become available to us with the support of the Lisbon community.

Q: Why has Lisbon been supportive of a trail that links every section of Lisbon?

A: Many people use trails for recreation and to stay fit.  Many people use trails as a family meeting place.  Many people use the trail as a way to experience Lisbon's many characteristics unavailable by car. And some believe that it is a attraction to people from other areas or to people passing through town.  An attraction such as a trail serves to connect people to a community and what a community offers to them.  A trail is more than a road and more than place from A to B.  A trail is a place where you come back to time and time again to experience your life the way you like to see it, and you always welcome others to walk along with you.

Update on the Transfer Station Mall

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW, JUST ASK

By coincidence I read the Letter to the Editor "A Citizen Misses Going To
The Mall, (Transfer Station) before heading to the transfer station myself.
I saw the signs that the swap shop is closed, so I asked one of the
attendants Why? He said they had to close it due to insurance reasons.

While inspecting town buildings etc. recently the Town of Lisbon's new insurance
provider said it had to go. I just spoke with Mr. Wayne Ricker and he
verified that was partly the reason for closing down the Swap Shop. The
other reason was because a lot of the stuff left there was just junk that
no-one wanted and the attendants had to clean up. He said that they would
"look at it again next spring".

So, a word to the wise, if you want the town Swap Shop to continue think carefully
before placing items there.

Is it still usable, or in such bad condition that no-one else could use it?
Timing. Don't just dump leftover yard sale or flea market stuff just before
closing, especially on Saturdays, and/or when rain is expected. Items there
are not under cover and who would want a soggy mess?

Let's not spoil a good thing. Recycling is good for our purses, and for the planet.

What are your feelings on this year’s up coming flu season? Are you planning on getting a flu shot? If not, why?

I think they are completely over-rating the flu season this year. It isn't as bad as it was last year. I mean, I understand the swine flu epidemic, but it's partially died out by now. I've gotten a flu shot just in case, but I don't really see the reason why.
- Brittany Couillard, Grade 8

I'm not sure about getting a flu shot this year. I haven't gotten one yet. But, I'm sure my mom will make me. I would have to say there's quite a bit of an epidemic out there, and there's a lot of reported cases of the flu."
- Patrick Dexler, Grade 7

We are over reacting to the flu, and no I'm not getting a flu shot because there hasn't been an outbreak.
- Josh Broadwater, Grade 8

I'm defiantly getting a flu shot.  I'm trying not to get too parodied about it. I'm using lots of hand sanitizer.

Dumb comments and reports‏

Just so you know - your bond issue statements about the water bond are totally wrong.  You are a million off.  Watch the Council meetings and maybe you'll learn the facts!  Until I spoke up and argued for the town's reaffirmation of a vote taken in 2004, the Council was going to vote the $700,000.

The comments about the recycling center were stupid, cynical  and very wrong.  Why didn't someone ask Wayne Ricker before you published it?  You're as bad as the liberals and their hatred of Rush Limbaugh - you make things up to destroy people.  Take that blog down and check with Wayne before you think about putting it back up.

You support the Water department - they have said they are handling all their monies from now on - that could be millions.  In May, they said (voted) they didn't think anyone who handled money for them needed to be bonded.  How wise and smart is that?  Also, you are probably supportive of the water department holding illegal executive meetings.  They've held 4-5 of them in the past year.  'Sounds like the Democrats in the House of Representatives and their support of Charlie Rangel.

A Citizen Misses Going To the Mall

Pretty sad :((
The Lisbon Falls Mall, (Transfer Station), has stopped people from picking up recycled goods at the site.
Lot of people are upset. Was kinda fun.
Reason closed? Don't have a clue unless the employees themselves want it or someone wants the whole works for flea markets, lawn, garage sales, etc.
Guess I didn't realize the employees at the Station could set Policy?
Just had to voice my thoughts on the subject :))
No biggie!

Lock Down Letter Sent to Parents

This is the Letter that was sent home to parents yesterday.

OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

Lisbon School Department

Richard A. Green, Interim Superintendent

October 14, 2009

Dear Parents,

This letter is intended to provide detailed information regarding the ordered lock-down at all three schools yesterday afternoon. The Lisbon Police Department contacted the High School and Middle school immediately after a robbery was reported at the Androscoggin Bank around 1:30 P.M. As a safety precaution, the Lisbon Police Department also ordered a lock-down at the Lisbon Community School around 1:45 P.M. The lock-down order was removed at all three schools around 2:05 P.M. which is close to the regular dismissal time for the High School and Middle School. Specific details about the incident were not available until 6:00 P.M. last evening when I received an informal report. Detective Bernie McAllister of the Lisbon Police Department informed us today that an arrest has been made.

The safety of our students is our utmost concern. I want to thank the Lisbon Police Department, Students and Staff for their cooperation. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school office with any questions or concerns related to this incident.

Sincerely,

Richard A. Green

Interim Superintendent of Schools
