Lisbon - The induction ceremony for the Worumbo Chapter of the National Honor Society was held on the evening of Wednesday, November 3 at Lisbon High School. Sixteen students from the classes of 2011 and 2012 were recognized by family, friends, and faculty for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Former Lisbon science teacher, Olivia Griset, returned as the evening’s keynote speaker and encouraged students to “seek out knowledge beyond the classroom and to use what they have learned to make the world a better place.” As NHS members, students will continue to demonstrate their commitment to helping others as they perform both individual and group service projects throughout the year.  A number of inductees are members of the Lisbon Young Adult Volunteer Program and the Community Service Club.  FMI on projects and other programs, volunteer and community partnership opportunities, contact Community Resource Coordinator Monica Millhime, 754-0021 or email mmillhime@lisbonschoolsme.org

Ron Paul Proposes A Solution OPT OUT AMERICA

Nov. 17, 2010 - Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) introduces the American Traveler Dignity Act in response to regulatory measures taken by the TSA to implement potentially dangerous X-Ray screening procedures or invasive "pat-downs" by TSA officials. VW Camper, How Many Remember This?

Here's A True Tale With A Happy Tail For An Ending

Missing Dog Found Miles From Home, Reunited With Owners

Dog Named Faith Found In St. Francis Tuesday Afternoon

An amazing journey lead a Waukesha County couple to find Faith, their 8-year old basset hound.Faith vanished from their Menomonee Falls yard Monday evening. She was found Tuesday afternoon in St. Francis, nearly 25 miles from home."How she ended up here, I don't know. But she did," said Elliot Brown, who found the dog. "I saw this little munchkin running down the street, so I started chasing her. She ran about a half-mile before I caught her. I know she doesn't look fast, but she is."

Finally Some Politicians With Some Fortitude

New Jersey Legislators Take on the TSA

Help spread the word about invasive TSA screening by visiting and sharing: http://bit.ly/c0n2FL

TRENTON— Senator Michael J. Doherty (R-Hunterdon, Warren) and Senator James Beach (D-Camden) today announced they will present resolutions to the Senate and Assembly calling on the U.S. Congress to end TSA screening procedures requiring full body scans and pat downs at U.S. airports Their action comes in response to widespread concerns over privacy and radiation, as well as reports of inappropriate conduct by TSA agents during the screening process.

"The pursuit of security should not force Americans to surrender their civil liberties or basic human dignity at a TSA checkpoint," said Doherty. "Subjecting law-abiding American citizens to naked body scans and full body pat downs is intolerable, humiliating, vulnerable to abuse, and is fast becoming a disincentive to travel. Particularly concerning to us is the fact that physical searches result in children being touched in private areas of the body. Terrorists hate America because of the freedoms upon which this great nation was built. By implementing these screening measures, the TSA has already handed a victory to those who seek to destroy our freedoms."

It Takes A Cartoon To Make More Sense Than Lip Service From The Media

Cartoons to the rescue

You know that you're living strange times when an animated cartoon makes more sense that the talking heads in the media.

The US news media, including NPR, is doing everything it can to "normalize" the idea of uniformed federal agents being told they have the right to put their hands on the genitals of any man, woman or CHILD who wants to board a commercial passenger aircraft.

(Private jet passengers face no such indignities. They don't even have to pass through security!)

This "right to molest" will soon be extended to trains, buses, boats, and even travel on public roadways. The TSA - in its twisted institutional mind - thinks it controls EVERY mode of transportation. From there, it's a straight line to government buildings, courthouses and while we're at it why not schools, day care and hospitals too?

And what's a traffic stop on a deserted road without a quick feel of the female driver and her kids to make sure "everyone's safe?"

These abusive TSA practices are paving the way for this and don't think the social engineers who cooked them up don't know it.

For the most part the media applauds...

One particularly odious little creep, Alan Chartock of WAMC radio in Albany, NY (an NPR affiliate), spent the bulk of his call-in show today (11/16/10) ridiculing people who expressed concerns and cheerleading the morons who think the new "security measures" are a good idea and necessary.

No security expert who is not in the employ of Homeland Security or its countless vendors (actual or wannabe) thinks these abusive practices contribute to public safety in the least.

Stop flying until this bullshit stops

The Plan is Simple

  1. If you absolutely, positively must fly, opt out of the scanners. Do it to protect your health and privacy.
  2. If you can avoid flying, don’t fly. Hit the airlines in the pocketbook until the scanners and gropers are gone. Make the airlines work for us.
  3. Raise holy hell. Register your disapproval of the scanners and gropers to your airline, your hotel and all government officials who claim to work for you. Educate your community.

For your Health

Backscatter X-ray uses ionizing radiation, a known cumulative health hazard, to produce images of passengers’ bodies. Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with defective DNA repair mechanisms are considered to be especially susceptible to the type of DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation. Also at high risk are those who have had, or currently have, skin cancer. Ionizing radiation’s effects are cumulative, meaning that each time you are exposed you are adding to your risk of developing cancer. Since the dosage of radiation from the backscatter X-ray machines is absorbed almost entirely by the skin and tissue directly under the skin, averaging the dose over the whole body gives an inaccurate picture of the actual harm. In their letter of concern, the UCSF faculty members noted that “the dose to the skin could be dangerously high”. The eyes are particularly susceptible to the effects of radiation, and as one study found allowing the eyes to be exposed to radiation can lead to an increased incidence of cataracts.

Grow Some Integrity, Grow Some Intelligence, Make The Call Before You Can Grow Nothing At All

Scheduled for today, a very important bill to be voted on that will have an impact on your future that has yet to be fully realized.

S. 510: Oversight or Overreach?

Congress is likely to pick up S. 510, a sweeping overhaul of food safety regulation, in the lame duck session starting in November 2010.
In our first video segment, GovTrack Insider reporter Patrick Tutwiler interviews Liz Reitzig, the Secretary of the National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association, about S. 510: Food Safety Modernization Act. The bill is likely to come before the Senate in November.

This is the first video in a series of reports we plan on the subject.
Also check out the 90-second summary of the bill by Main Street Insider.
Transcript:

Congress is likely to pick up S. 510, a sweeping overhaul of food safety regulation, in the lame duck session starting in November 2010. Many small farming groups and organic food enthusiasts are worried about the effect the bill could have on the local and small farm production chain.
Liz Reitzig is Secretary of the National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association.

Reitzig: Senate bill S. 510 is completely flawed.

Question from GovTrack.us Users: Will this bill prevent me from having a home garden, sharing produce with my friends, or disrupt in any way my local farmer’s market?

Reitzig: What Senate bill S. 510 does it is creates statutory authority for the FDA to come up with regulations governing all aspects of food production and processing. So whether or not it will affect a home garden or a farmer’s market, we probably won’t see anything immediately affecting those, but once they come up with the regulations and start enforcing we could see a disruption in anything, anything from a farmer’s market to a child’s lemonade stand.

Because nothing is explicitly exempted, so they are all implicitly included. So the regulations could very easily include regulations such that they impose overburdensome restrictions on farmers going to market.
GovTrack Insider: But surely it wasn’t the intent of the lawmakers to disrupt gardens or lemonade stands.
Reitzig: Well I think the intent of the legislation is to give much broader authority to the FDA, and then when you look at the language of the bill, when it gives the authority to the FDA to act on “reason to believe”, that’s giving a lot of power, a lot of control, to one person.

An example of that is there is a thriving and booming fresh milk movement, people who want fresh milk directly from farmers they know and trust. Well the FDA, CDC, and other organizations have clearly said they don’t think anybody should drink fresh milk. If you go by that, they would have reason to believe fresh milk might make somebody sick, and on that basis they could just shut down every fresh milk farmer, everybody who is supplying fresh milk to a consumer because they have that reason to believe. Even if the intent is not explicitly stated as control over all farms, that is what is this legislation and they can use that to impose their world view on everyone.

S. 510 does exempt small farmers and restaurants from some of the FDA’s proposed new regulatory authority. However, the scope of the final regulations will not be known until the law is enacted and the FDA completes the rule-making process.

Reitzig: It’s like writing a blank check to the FDA and saying now come up with the regulations. Once the bill is passed they can come up with whatever regulations they want. Again for them to say we’re going to have regulations specifically for smaller producers, they don’t yet have the regulations so how do we know what they are going to come up with? How do we know if it actually is going to benefit small producers or not? We don’t know, it’s this big unknown. And it’s this big blank check to the FDA who has already been stepping on small farms a lot.

Make the calls or send some faxes, it is up to us the moral maxes.

Ice Hockey Grant Assistance Request‏

Dear Lisbon Teachers, Parents, Families and Friends:

If you would like to support the continuation of the Ice Hockey team at Lisbon High School, please complete this request no later than Tuesday, November 30.

The ice hockey teams at Lisbon and Mt. Ararat high schools need to raise money to keep the program going.  Both schools have combined resources to participate in a grant competition to win $5000, with $2,500 designated for each schools’ team.   We need as many people as possible to take a brief 10 question, self-correcting multiple choice quiz on the Responsible Sports website sponsored by Liberty Mutual.

We need your assistance.  Please follow the quick, and easy instructions to support the ice hockey teams.

1.  Click on one of these links to take the very brief quiz.  You do not need to be a parent or coach to take the quizzes.  The questions are mostly common sense and the system will tell you if you answered incorrectly so you can just change your response, if needed.

2.  After passing the quiz you will be directed to a form page.  Fill out this very short, simple form including your name and email.  Choose ME for the state and USA Hockey for the team affiliation.  You will need to either email me Marie Stuckey at ms@stuckey.comcastbiz.net a PDF of your quiz certificate by saving it to a file, or you can just use my first name and your first name for a password so I know it and can enter your account and get a copy of the certificate.   Just let me know if you've taken the quiz so I know to find your certificate.  You will need a different email address for each quiz you take.

3.  Next you will be asked what organization to assign your credit to.  Please fill in the organization field with:  Mt. Ararat/Lisbon Ice Hockey  Fill in the city field: Topsham and state with ME.

4.  Check the email inbox for the email you provided.  Click on the link in the email from Responsible Sports to verify yourself as the quiz taker.  Without this step, the quiz will not count so please check your inbox.

5.  Log into Responsible Sports if you are not already logged on:http://www.responsiblesports.com/default.aspx  The Sign In button is on the upper right hand side of the page.  Go to your Fan Page.  The button for this is also on the upper right.  Look for certifications on the right and click on the View PDF button.  Then save the PDF to a file and email it to me or let me know I can go into your account to get it.

Please direct any additional questions to:

Notice To All Lisbon Residents

All Lisbon Residents

I have attended several meetings of the Lisbon Town Council and have looked into the tax situation.  I have reviewed several documents pertaining to taxation from the State of Maine Revenue Service and received a copy of the Lisbon Charter.  After careful review, it is my personal opinion the Town Manager has violated the Town Charter.  I have submitted a letter to the Town Council requesting the Town Manager be terminated for cause.  Below are the violations:

    a. The Town Manager failed to comply with paragraph 3.02 “… The Manager shall be responsible to the council for the proper administration of all affairs of the Town….” by misleading the Town Council into thinking the 2011 Commitment was prepared properly and contained all the documentation required by the State of Maine Property Tax Bulletin Number 15 in order to have a valid commitment.

    b. The Town Manager failed to comply with paragraph 3.02(d) “The Manager shall see that all laws, provisions of the charter and acts of the council, subject to enforcement by him or her or by officers subject to his or her direction and supervision, are faithfully executed.”  The Town Manager has been a Town Manager for several years and as such is required to know what documentation is required for a valid commitment.  The Town Manager failed to ensure all required documentation for a valid commitment were prepared by the Tax Assessor.  Town Manager is not required to perform the duties as Tax Assessor but as the Tax Assessors direct supervisor the Town Manager is REQUIRED to have a “working knowledge” of the Tax Assessor position to include the documents necessary for a valid commitment.  The Town Manager is also required to ensure the required documents for “The Valuation Book” are prepared and present in the Tax Assessor’s office as required by State of Maine Property Bulletin Number 15.

Under the provisions of the paragraph 3.02(d), the Town Manager is required to know the State of Maine laws as pertain to the operation of a municipality.  The Town Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer for the town.  The residents of the Town of Lisbon compensate the Town Manager very well to ensure the town is operating IAW State of Maine laws and regulations.  The Town Manager has failed to perform his required duties by not ensuring the required documentation was on file IAW State of Maine Property Bulletin Number 15.

c.    The Town Manager failed to comply with paragraph 3.02(b) “The Manager
shall direct and supervise the administration of all departments, offices and agencies of the Town except as otherwise provided by this Charter or by law.”  The Town Manager violated this paragraph by directing the Tax Collector to issue the 2011 Real Estate Tax Bill without a valid commitment.

The Town Manager’s failure to comply with State of Maine laws has placed the Town of Lisbon is a situation where revenue is being collected improperly and without a valid commitment.  It is my understanding, the town is only authorized to collect taxes under a valid commitment and therefore, the town could continue to collect taxes under last year’s commitment, if it was valid, but can not collect any taxes under the new commitment as it is invalid and therefore does not exist.  The town is fraudulently collecting revenue without a valid commitment which I believe is against the law.  This could cause the Town Council and Town of Lisbon to be liable.

The Town Manager’s dereliction of duty is presently costing the Town of Lisbon a great deal of money.  The obvious additional cost is the hiring of a new Tax Assessor to prepare a valid commitment in order to legally collect revenue.  This includes preparing the documentation required by the State of Maine.  The town already paid for this service to the previous Tax Assessor and because he was not properly supervised and did not prepare the required documentation, the town is paying for this service again.  This additional cost could have been prevented had the Town Manager performed his required duties as outlined in the town charter.

The town will have to send out new 2011 Real Estate Tax Bill once the town has a valid commitment.  Currently, the town is sending out statements to all the mortgage companies explaining the previous sent 2011 Real Estate Tax Bill sent to mortgage companies was in error.  Hopefully, this will eliminate any excessive home payments for Lisbon residents.  All of these actions require man-hours and postage the town will have to pay.  These additional costs will have to be paid by the residents of the town of Lisbon.  The residents of Lisbon already are paying their fair share without requiring the residents to pay for the incompetence of the Town Manager.  I believe the Town Council should retrieve all additional cost from Town Manager’s pay as he created this situation by failing to perform his duties as required by the charter.

Again, this is my personal opinion but if you share my opinion please, contact members of the Town Council and voice your opinion.  Residents can also attend the Town Council meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 06:30 PM at the Town Office and voice their opinion.

Termination Of Town Manager

                                    8 November 2010

SUBJECT:  Termination of Town Manager for Cause

Lisbon Town Council
300 Lisbon Street
Lisbon, ME 04250

Respectfully, request Mr. Stephen Eldridge, Lisbon Town Manager, be terminated immediately for cause in accordance with (IAW) paragraph 3.03, Removal, Town of Lisbon Charter. Mr. Eldridge has failed to comply with paragraph 3.02, Power and Duties of the Town Manager, Town of Lisbon Charter as described below:

    a.  Mr. Eldridge failed to comply with paragraph 3.02 “… The Manager shall be responsible to the council for the proper administration of all affairs of the Town….” by misleading the Town Council into thinking the 2011 Commitment he presented to the council was prepared properly and contained all the documentation required by the State of Maine Property Tax Bulletin Number 15 in order to have a valid commitment.  Mr. Eldridge’s actions lead the council into voting on and approving an invalid commitment.

    b.  Mr. Eldridge failed to comply with paragraph 3.02(d) “The Manager shall see that all laws, provisions of the charter and acts of the council, subject to enforcement by him or her or by officers subject to his or her direction and supervision, are faithfully executed.”  Mr. Eldridge has been a Town Manager for several years and as such is required to know what documentation is required for a valid commitment.  Mr. Eldridge failed to ensure all required documentation for a valid commitment was prepared by the Tax Assessor.  Mr. Eldridge is not required to perform the duties as Tax Assessor but as the Tax Assessors direct supervisor Mr. Eldridge is REQUIRED to have a “working knowledge” of the Tax Assessor position to include the documents necessary for a valid commitment.  He is also required to ensure the required documents for “The Valuation Book” are prepared and present in the Tax Assessor’s office as required by State of Maine Property Bulletin Number 15.

Under the provisions of the paragraph 3.02(d), Mr. Eldridge is required to know the State of Maine laws as pertain to the operation of a municipality.  The Town Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer for the town.  The residents of the Town of Lisbon compensate Mr. Eldridge very well to ensure the town is operating IAW State of Maine laws and regulations.  Mr. Eldridge has failed to perform his required duties by not ensuring the required documentation was on file IAW State of Maine Property Bulletin Number 15.

c.    Mr. Eldridge failed to comply with paragraph 3.02(b) “The Manager shall direct and supervise the administration of all departments, offices and agencies of the Town except as otherwise provided by this Charter or by law.”  Mr. Eldridge violated this paragraph by directing the Tax Collector to issue the 2011 Real Estate Tax Bill without a valid commitment.

Mr. Eldridge’s failure to comply with State of Maine law has placed the Town of Lisbon is a situation where revenue is being collected improperly and without a valid commitment.  The town is only authorized to collect taxes under a valid commitment and therefore, the town could continue to collect taxes under last year’s commitment if it was valid but can not collect any taxes under the new commitment as it is invalid and therefore does not exist.  The town is fraudulently collecting revenue without a valid commitment which I believe is against the law.  This could cause the Town Council and Town of Lisbon to be liable.

Mr. Eldridge’s dereliction of duty is presently costing the Town of Lisbon a great deal of money.  The obvious additional cost is the hiring of Mr. William Van Tuinen and his people to prepare a valid commitment in order to legally collect revenue.  This includes preparing the documentation required by the State of Maine.  The town already paid for this service to the previous Tax Assessor and because he was not properly supervised and did not prepare the required documentations the town is paying for this service again.

The residents of the town of Lisbon already are paying their fair share without requiring the residents to pay for the incompetence of the Town Manager.  I believe the Town Council should retrieve all additional cost from Mr. Eldridge’s pay as he created this situation by failing to perform his duties as required by the charter.

Happy Veteran's Day

To all of you veterans, thanks for your service and have an awesome day!

And thanks to all of you who sincerely appreciate and support them...

What is a Veteran?

Some veterans bear visible signs of their service: a missing limb, a jagged scar, a certain look in the eye.

Others may carry the evidence inside them: a pin holding a bone together, a piece of shrapnel in the leg - or perhaps another sort of inner steel: the soul's ally forged in the refinery of adversity.

Except in parades, however, the men and women who have kept
America safe wear no badge or emblem.

You can't tell a vet just by looking...

He is the cop on the beat who spent six months in
Saudi Arabia sweating two gallons a day making sure the armored personnel carriers didn't run out of fuel.

He is the barroom loudmouth, dumber than five wooden planks, whose overgrown frat-boy behavior is outweighed a hundred times in the cosmic scales by four hours of exquisite bravery near the 38th parallel.

She - or he - is the nurse who fought against futility and went to sleep sobbing every night for two solid years in
Da Nang.

He is the POW who went away one person and came back another - or didn't come back AT ALL.

He is the Quantico drill instructor who has never seen combat - but has saved countless lives by turning slouchy, no-account rednecks and gang members into Marines, and teaching them to watch each other's backs.

He is the parade - riding Legionnaire who pins on his ribbons and medals with a prosthetic hand.

He is the career quartermaster who watches the ribbons and medals pass him by.

He is the three anonymous heroes in The Tomb Of The Unknowns, whose presence at the
Arlington National Cemetery must forever preserve the memory of all the anonymous heroes whose valor dies
unrecognized with them on the battlefield or in the ocean's sunless deep.

He is the old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket - palsied now and aggravatingly slow - who helped liberate a Nazi death camp and who wishes all day long that his wife were still alive to hold him when the nightmares come.
He is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being - a person who offered some of his life's most vital years in the service of his country, and who sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs.

He is a soldier and a savior and a sword against the darkness, and he is nothing more than the finest, greatest testimony on behalf of the finest, greatest nation ever known.

So remember, each time you see someone who has served our country, just lean over and say Thank You. That's all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded or were awarded.

Two little words that mean a lot, "
THANK YOU".

"It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag."

This was an unforgettable experience, and the inspiration for this song.

Dedicated to the more than 50,000 Fallen Warriors,
our Brothers and Sisters of Arms.

They have earned our respect, honor and appreciation.
May they rest forever in the arms of a Grateful Nation.

Most of the images were taken during our recent trip.
The pictures of the Traveling Wall were taken here in Sault Ste. Marie
several years a go.
The Brothers at the wall are two members of the Michigan Chapter
of the Forgotten Eagles!

I salute all my fellow Veteran's, be they Army, Air Force, Marine Corps,
Navy, National Guard, and last but certainly not least
The US Coast Guard.

I have very strong personal ties to the Coast Guard.
I wrote and performed the song "Cutter Mackinaw"
at the Decommissioning Ceremony held here in
Sault Ste. Marie. The Captain and crew were very pleased
with the song. I was given a tour, and presented with a ball cap.
Not the kind the crew wear, but a Captains Hat complete with
the "scrambled eggs" on the brim. I was very honored to receive this
hat from the last presiding Captain of the old
USCG Cutter Mackinaw.
The Guardian of the North!

I proudly wear this hat here, and in several other videos.

"Once we were Warriors"
(lyrics)

I don't know how things got this way.
It's not the way I had it planned.
It seemed so clear when we were young,
And now I lay me down to sleep,
How will you live without your man.

Don't cry for me, I'm not alone.
They've carved our names here on this wall.
Think of us, from time to time, and let them know
Once we were Warriors,
Now we are names here on the wall.

I have my brothers, and my brothers all have me.
We fought and died for one and all.
And now forever we will stand here side by side.
Once we were Warriors,
Now we are names here on the wall.

If I could, you know I'd turn this world around
Change the things that we have done
And for all it's worth I hope forever you will know
You have always been the one.

I have my brothers, and my brothers all have me.
We fought and died for one and all.
And now forever we will stand here side by side.
Once we were Warriors,
Now we are names here on the wall.

Once we were Warriors,
Now we are names here on the wall.

I wish to thank my many friends and subscribers.
I am so honored by the fantastic response
And the comments I have received.

Thank you for watching my video.
Have a wonderful day!

Take care,

Thank You To All Veterans, Past, Present, and Future

It is both my honor and my privilege to support our Brothers and Sisters Of
Service. I come from a family full of Veterans and have family and friends
in country now. I was very moved by my recent trip to The Vietnam Memorial
Wall in Washington DC. The trip was made to get the footage for my 50,000
Names tribute video.

I was so inspired I wrote my new song "Once we were Warriors" I have been
working hard to create the video and am very pleased with the results.
I will post it around midnight tonight, so it will be available right on
Veteran's Day.

I invite everyone to stop in for a visit, and say Howdy!

I thank the Lisbon Reporter for their kindness and support.

I am proud to have my video shown here on their awesome site.

Pentagon Says What?

Pentagon: Mystery 'missile' likely a plane

Review concludes vapor plume that streaked across Calif. sky probably came from aircraft

A mystery vapor trail that was filmed off the coast of southern California and looked like a missile launch was likely caused by a plane, the Pentagon said on Wednesday, closing its case on the incident.

"With all the information that we have gathered over the last day and a half about this condensation trail ... we have no evidence to suggest that this was anything other than a contrail caused by an aircraft," said Col. David Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman.

The image was caught on tape by a KCBS news helicopter on Monday evening at rush hour. Video showed a billowing contrail apparently rising from the water about 35 miles west of Los Angeles and north of Catalina Island.

Contrails are created by streaks of condensation from the exhaust of jet aircraft flying at high altitudes.
