Eminent Domain Abuse Gone Wild‏ Think This Doesn't Touch Lisbon?

Lisbon,

Imagine if someone came to you and said they wanted to buy your
home, but you didn't want to sell it. You could just say 'no' and
send them on their way, right?

Generally, yes, but not if they are a billionaire with friends in
government. Trump did it. He kicked an old lady out of her
life-long home so he could build a parking lot for his casino.

And this guy, well, his reasons weren't much better...
Eminent Domain Abuse Gone Wild

The Battle For Brooklyn
The Battle For Brooklyn, a documentary about one man's fight to stop a private developer from using eminent domain to take his home, recently opened in select theaters in New York City after a successful film-festival run.

In 2003, billionaire real estate developer and New Jersey Nets owner Bruce Ratner decided to move the team to Brooklyn, with the intention of building an arena, an affordable housing project, and bringing desperately needed jobs to the borough of Brooklyn. Ratner's friend and fellow billionaire, Michael Bloomberg, enthusiastically put the weight of top-down government planning behind the project. That included using the city government's extensive powers of eminent domain, despite the fact eminent domain is supposed to be used only in cases where development is for public uses such as schools and roads. And despite the fact that the construction of what became known as the "Atlantic Yards" project would displace many thriving businesses and homes.

Graphic designer Daniel Goldstein fought for nearly seven years to keep his home out of the hands of Ratner's company, Forest City Ratner. Goldstein's quixotic struggle is the centerpiece of The Battle For Brooklyn.

Reason.tv sat down with co-directors Michael Galinsky and Suki Hawley to discuss eminent domain abuse and political perceptions of their film. Galinsky and Hawley insist their film is not a polemic, but rather an all-too-common story of a single person fighting an injustice against figures whose power and influence drawf his own.

Produced by Anthony L. Fisher. About 4.40 minutes.

Middle School Boys Soccer Results, 10/18/11, PWS vs Maranacook‏

The Sugg Middle School Boys fought a valiant fight on the opponents
field but Maranacook sustained their undefeated record in a 0-7 season
rematch. Lisbon, though playing one of their strongest games just
couldn't match the skills of a solid and talented Maranacook team. Of
considerable notice in the game were midfielder Bradley Boulet who's
high level of determination and aggressiveness was a common Greyhound
quality. Nate Bergeron was also very active the second half denying 8
solid shots on goal from entering the net. The [3-5] Greyhounds
overall played an excellent game and will be fine tuning their skills
as they prepare to face the Hall-Dale Bulldogs in Lisbon, Thursday,
October 20.

Middle School Girls Soccer Results, 10/18/11, PWS vs Maranacook‏

On Tuesday 10/18, Lisbon Sugg Middle School girls soccer tied with
Maranacook 0x0 on their turf. Defenders Chandler Riordan and Skye Cribbin
blocked the middle, while Sydney Douglas and Conchita Thomas locked left and
right. Goaltender Ali Sult blocked a dangerous crossed shot and kept Lisbon’s
goal undefeated.Midfielders played an outstanding game, fighting
passionately for every single ball in the midfield and making good passes to
the forwards, including Kipri Steele, Sam Buldoc and Abby Gamage, who was
all over the field.

Offense line came very close to breaking Maranacook’s defense. Katherine
George dribbled past many defenders looking for a clear position to shoot,
but the defenders blocked her over and over again. She also had a free kick
blocked by the defenders, and when Kipri Steele touched the rebound she
almost put in the net. Hope Morse gave two good assists to Emma Houle, who
unfortunately could not put it in the net. Makayla Tilley also helped the
Forwards playing aggressively.

Lisbon Sugg middle school girls soccer played today their best game of the
season so far, and their next game is on Thursday, 10/20/2011 against Hall
Dale, at home.

HOW TO CALL THE Lisbon POLICE WHEN they they are busy!‏

HOW TO CALL THE Lisbon POLICE WHEN they are busy!

Huck Eck, an elderly man, from Lisbon, Maine, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. Huck opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"
He said "No," but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me.

Then the police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available"
Huck said, "Okay."
He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned Lisbon's Finest again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot and killed them both, the dogs are eating them right now." and he hung up.

Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Ecks' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to Huck, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
Huck said, "I thought you said there was nobody available !"

Keep National Politics Off The Lisbon Reporter

NATIONAL POLITICS

National politics do NOT belong on The Lisbon Reporter.
The Lisbon Reporter began as a medium for the citizens
and taxpayers of the Town of Lisbon to be informed on local issues.

The local schools promote events, and sports.

Recently the Lisbon Fire Department had an article about the
dedication of a piece of the World Trade Center they were holding.

Citizens can write in with their gripes and opinions.

The citizens of Lisbon are a diverse people.
We have a diversity of Churches and Religions.

We are Republicans and Democrats. We are in Independents.

It is great to be informed, but we get enough political coverage via
television stations and newspapers.

Speaking with a friend recently, she asked me about something
local. I asked if she reads The Lisbon Reporter? She said sometimes.
She skips it a lot because of the national politics, and said another
friend feels the same way.

There are many great articles. The video posted today about
the Marine in Times Square, brought tears to my eyes.
Those protesting in cities across this nation are telling a story.
The are exercising their right to free speech, to send a long needed
message to Wall Street and government. It is political but it is non-partisan.
Both Democrats and Republicans are to blame for the mess our country is in.
It's not fair to blame one party and not the other.

There is so much more going on in this world to be informed about.
The Lisbon Reporter does a great job keeping us informed.
But, please, keep national politics out.

County still searching for dispatch answer

AUBURN — The controversy over who will answer when local people dial 911 goes on.
County commissioners have tossed out a September 2010 vote to merge Androscoggin County's emergency dispatching center with Lewiston-Auburn 911, a move that would have created a single hub for the county's emergency calls.
Instead, commissioners are once again listening to proposals. And they're hearing the same arguments.
Lewiston-Auburn 911 has proposed the creation of the Androscoggin Regional Communications Center. It would operate in the current L-A center on Minot Avenue in Auburn and handle 911 calls countywide.

"Chairs" by Kristen Short

Singer/songwriter Kristen Short was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. Since then, she has continued to write and perform music. Her cancer journey and experiences with the Dempsey Center, the caregivers of CMMC, and fellow patients and their families have inspired her to write a song and produce a video. The "Chairs" CD single/DVD is available for $10 at http://www.kshort.com/recordings.shtml . 50% of proceeds from "Chairs" will benefit The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

I would like to dedicate this to a friend and com-padre in the fight against corruption in Lisbon, adjoining communities in the neighborhood as well as all across Maine, Mr. Leon Bard.  Leon has been fighting cancer for a short while now and has undergone some 35 plus radiation treatments.  Now next Monday he is facing extensive surgery on his face and needs all the hope and prayers that we may muster for him.   God Bless and Good Luck Leon I will talk with you soon once again my good friend.

Lisbon Is Controlled By A Council Of Puppets

A COUNCIL OF PUPPETS

I truly am embarrassed to acknowledge several members of the Town Council.  These individuals are too stupid to know when there are being played by Councilor Bowie.

Let’s take for instance Councilor Mason.  During a workshop discussion of the Western Maine Transportation, Lisbon Connection, she asked “What do the buses look like?”  This individual is representing this community and the senior citizens in it and has no clue what the buses look like.  Marvelous, just plain marvelous!  Look at the town council meetings and the input Mason provides; it is either about Moxie Day or some upcoming event in the town.  Mason is the “Social Director” for the council.  She never has any worthwhile input for the council on real issues.

Next, let’s take a look at Councilor Pomelow.  I personally do not believe she has ever had a single thought of her own.  If Bowie did not conduct a pre-meeting before the town council meetings she would be at a loss for words.  I believe it was Bowie who ordered Pomelow to rewrite the Council Working Rules to silence the residents from speaking on agenda items during the discussion of each item.  She wrote it and screwed it up so bad Evil Eldridge had to take it over after approximately four months.  It still is not right but what else would you expect from Eldridge.

Councilor LaRochelle is making money hand over fist off the town so he does whatever he is told to do.  Let’s see now; he has purchased several town properties for a song; he has the towing contract and he does repairs on town vehicles.  Why in the world would he want to jeopardize all of this?  Think of the income he would lose.

Councilor Bowie manipulates the council to ensure the police have anything Brooks needs in order to keep his wife employed.  He is the senior councilor and instead of providing honest guidance he leads these other councilors for his own agenda.  He sits in the back ground and plays stupid when in fact he is pulling the strings all the time.  If you do not believe this look at the meetings and discussions on the reevaluation contract for the town.  Pomelow and LaRochelle stated they would like more information on the process and when, and only when it looked like the issue was going to be tabled, Bowie stepped in to save the day by making a motion to vote on the issue.  Both Pomelow and LaRochelle voted with Bowie to award the contract to VanTuinen.   Bowie pulls the strings and they jump into action.

The latest rendition of this very corrupt council is forcing residents to pay for the handouts for workshops.  Have you ever been to a Public Meeting where you were not handed documents in order for you to follow along?  These documents enable you to understand the discussions even if you cannot say anything during the briefing.  I had to pay $13.00 for a copy of the handouts for the last two workshops because “the council” according to Chairman Lunt did not want to provide the handouts to residents who attend these workshops.  Keep in mind, I requested at the last town council, and many preceding meetings that these documents be posted to the town web site just like the town does for actual council meetings.  That way, the town would not have to waste paper on the residents.  The residents could printout whatever they wanted.

These are the four councilors who always vote together and are solely responsible for the condition the town is in right now.  We cannot get rid of them on a recall so the next time they come up for reelection vote them out! Let’s break up Bowie and the puppets.
