LISBON HS senior Tyler Campbell (age 17) captured second place in the men's 3000 meter racewalk at the 2009 USATF New England Indoor Championship and qualified for the US Junior Nationals Track and Field Championship to be held In Eugene, Oregon in June. Campbell's time was 14:46.73 The qualifying standard was 15:00 flat. The event winner was Don Lawrence (age 49) from Fleet Feet Sports in a time of 14:26.43.
In the women's race Abby Dunn (age 14) a freshman from EDWARD LITTLE HS finished in 3rd place with yet another Personal Best time in the 3000 meter of 15:53.61 (a 12 second PR) followed closely in 4th place by LEWISTON HS freshman Nicole Court-Menendez (age 14) in 16:37.17, just over 7 seconds off of the qualifying time for the junior Nationals in Eugene, and a 25 second improvement in her personal best time. Dunn qualified for Nationals several weeks ago and has now walked below the qualifying time in three consecutive races, each time setting a new personal record. The womans race was won by 2008 USA Olympic Racewalker Joanne Dow (age 44) from New Hampshire in a time of 13:09.24 followed in second place by Erin Taylor (age 30) from the South Texas Walking Club in 14:43.71. Both Dow and Taylor should be competing in the USATF National Indoor Championships to be held next weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston (tickets to this competition are still available through www.USATF.org and other ticket sellers).
