Shaking Up Maine's Media‏

November 18, 2011

Dear Friends,

There hasn’t been much good news about Maine’s media lately. Our major daily newspapers are laying off employees, readerships continue to decline, and real news about the important issues seems harder to find every day. As conservatives, we all share the frustration with Maine’s political press – but that’s all about to change. A new player is entering the Maine media market.

The Maine Heritage Policy Center is getting ready to launch our own news bureau - MainePolicyNews.com.

MainePolicyNews.com will launch in early December, and make no mistake – it will turn the current political media culture on its head. We have put together an incredible team to deliver the real stories of state policy and politics to the people of Maine. We’re featuring daily state house updates, video interviews, hard-hitting investigative reporting, along with opinion and analysis from the thought leaders and elected officials who drive the policy debate every day.

We all know Mainers want more from political news coverage. Maine has an incredibly engaged electorate – we’ve got the highest voter turnout in the nation. But newspapers in Maine are offering less and less quality coverage.

Does anyone really want to read another story about labor murals?

Of course not. We’ve got real issues that the people of our state want to read about. They want to know where their tax dollars are going. They want to know what our government officials are up to. And they want to hear the stories of the real policy decisions that will affect their lives in major ways.

And that’s exactly what MainePolicyNews.com is all about. We’re bringing the truth about policy and politics to the front page every day, we’re asking the hard questions, and we’re going to bring balance to Maine’s media.

We’re extremely excited about this project, and we’ll keep you posted as we get closer to our launch date. In the meantime, you can sign up for email alerts at MainePolicyNews.com, and make sure to ‘like’ us on Facebook.

Maine’s media will be changing in a major way next month – so stay tuned!

Sincerely,
Lance Dutson
Chief Executive Officer
