**Carbon Monoxide Detectors**
Like smoke detectors, CO detectors should have their batteries replaced twice a year when we turn the clocks back/forward.
Please take the time to read the following Q@A's. Remember the life you save may be your own or your families!
WHERE DOES CARBON MONOXIDE COME FROM?
Carbon monoxide gas comes from the burning of natural gas, oil, charcoal, gasoline, wood, and other materials. You cannot see or smell carbon monoxide.
WHAT ARE THE HEALTH EFFECTS FROM BREATHING CARBON MONOXIDE?
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include:
Headache
Nausea
Vomiting
Dizziness
Sleepiness
Trouble breathing
Loss of consciousness
Severe poisoning can result in seizures, serious injury or death.
WHAT ARE SOME CAUSES OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING?
Exposure to house fires,
Using poorly maintained or unvented furnaces, boilers, stoves, hot water heaters, or other fuel burning equipment,
Using gas stoves or ovens to heat the home,
Using clogged chimneys and heating exhaust vents,
Using an outdoor grill inside the home, a garage, or a tent,
Using kerosene or propane space heaters indoors,
Running cars, generators, or gas-powered tools in enclosed areas (garage), or
Starting a car or truck when the exhaust pipe is blocked with snow.
DO I NEED A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR?
Yes, because carbon monoxide is colorless and has no odor, you may not know that there is a problem. Carbon monoxide detectors alert you and your family when there are dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in your home. Occupants are responsible for keeping and maintaining the carbon monoxide detectors in good repair.
IF I RENT MY HOME, HOW CAN I GET A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR?
Ask your landlord to install a carbon monoxide detector.
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO PUT THE CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR?
Install a detector within 15 feet of each bedroom, so that it can be heard if you are sleeping. Remember, homes may need more than one detector, depending on how many bedrooms there are and where they are located. Proper placement of a carbon monoxide (CO) detector is important. If you are installing only one carbon monoxide detector, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends it be located near the sleeping area, where it can wake you if you are asleep. Additional detectors on every level and in every bedroom of a home provide extra protection against carbon monoxide poisoning.
Homeowners should remember not to install carbon monoxide detectors directly above or beside fuel-burning appliances, as appliances may emit a small amount of carbon monoxide upon start-up. A detector should not be placed within fifteen feet of heating or cooking appliances or in or near very humid areas such as bathrooms.
When considering where to place a carbon monoxide detector, keep in mind that although carbon monoxide is roughly the same weight as air (carbon monoxide's specific gravity is 0.9657, as stated by the EPA; the National Resource Council lists the specific gravity of air as one), it may be contained in warm air coming from combustion appliances such as home heating equipment. If this is the case, carbon monoxide will rise with the warmer air.
Installation locations vary by manufacturer. Manufacturers' recommendations differ to a certain degree based on research conducted with each one's specific detector. Therefore, make sure to read the provided installation manual for each detector before installing.
DO I NEED A CO DETECTOR IF I OWN A SMOKE DETECTOR?
Yes. Because there may not be any smoke present when there is a carbon monoxide problem, a smoke detector is not enough. However, you may use a combination device that detects both smoke and carbon monoxide.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR ALARM SOUNDS?
Open your windows.
Leave your home.
Get to fresh air immediately.
Call 911.
TIPS TO PREVENT CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING IN HOMES.
Test all carbon monoxide detectors at least once a month.
Replace your carbon monoxide detectors batteries twice a year, in the spring and in the fall when clocks are changed for daylight savings time, or when there is a low battery signal. Even if your detector uses electricity, battery back-up is needed in case there is a power loss.
Never paint over carbon monoxide detectors.
Never use your gas oven or stove to heat your home.
Never run a car inside the garage. In the winter, make sure the tailpipe is clear of snow before you start the car engine.
Never use an outdoor grill inside your home, a garage, or a tent.
Never use kerosene or propane space heaters indoors.
If you use a generator during a power outage, keep it outdoors, away from open windows or enclosed areas.

Take This Political Quiz To See Where You Stand
World's Smallest Political Quiz
So, you
think you know where you stand, politically. Think again. The result
from this short test may surprise you and give you some food for
thought.
You'll be asked just 10 questions, and then it instantly tells you where you stand politically. It shows your position as a red dot on a "political map" so you'll see exactly where you score.
The most interesting thing about the Quiz is that it goes beyond the Democrat, Republican, and Independent.
The Quiz has gotten a lot of praise. The Washington Post said it has "gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings." TheFraser Institute said it's "a fast, fun, and accurate assessment of a person's overall political views." Suite University said it is the "most concise and accurate political quiz out there."

When The Music Stopped
When the
Music
Stopped...
(For
those who are unaware: At all military base
theaters, the National
Anthem is played before the
movie begins.)
This is written from a Chaplain in Iraq :
I recently attended a showing of 'Superman 3' here at LSA Anaconda. We have a large auditorium that we use for movies as well as memorial services and other large gatherings.
As is
the custom at all military bases, we stood to
attention when The National
Anthem began before the main
feature.
All was
going well until three-quarters of the way
through
The National Anthem, the music stopped.
Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-to-22-
year-olds back in the States? I imagine that there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and everyone would sit down and yell for the movie to begin. Of course, that is, only if they had stood for The National Anthem in the first place.
Here in Iraq 1,000 soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward. The music started again, and the soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. Again, though, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect 1,000 soldiers standing at attention to do?? Frankly, I expected some laughter, and everyone would eventually sit down and wait for the movie to start.
No!!. . . You could have heard a pin drop while every soldier continued to stand at attention.
Suddenly, there was a lone voice from the front of the auditorium,
then a dozen voices, and soon the room was filled with the voices
of a thousand soldiers, finishing where the recording left off:
"And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave,
o'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave."
It was the most inspiring moment I have had in Iraq, and I wanted you to know what kind of U.S. Soldiers are serving you! Remember them as they fight for us!

What An Accident!
This accident
occurred north of Deer Lodge MT, on I-90. The driver was appx 22 year old
guy heading east to College. He had left central Washington early in the
morning. He fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the shoulder hitting
the end of the section of guard rail.
The guard rail came through the right headlight, engine compartment, firewall, glove box, passenger seat, rear seat and exited out the driver’s side rear window. That is 120 feet of guard rail that threaded through the suburban. No passengers and the driver was not injured.

We are sharing this as a reminder to all about NOT driving when you shouldn’t be behind the wheel (drinking, texting, cell phone, distracted or just plain tired).
"He was walking around like a ghost when I got to the scene", the trooper said.
Kind of gives a new meaning to, " Chevrolet, the heart beat of America" don't yah think? Just Imagine the stink inside the driver's compartment!!

Food. We All Need It But Will We Be Able To Afford It?

In the interest of bringing information to you, the readers, we have recently subscribed to this online news group, National Inflation Association and will be posting items here that should be viewed by all.
We're pleased to have you as a member of National Inflation Association!
The National Inflation Association is an organization that is dedicated to preparing Americans for hyperinflation and helping Americans not only survive, but prosper in the upcoming hyperinflationary crisis.
With a $13.6 trillion national debt, $6.3 trillion in Fannie/Freddie debt and $61.3 trillion in unfunded obligations for programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the U.S. government has total obligations of over $81.2 trillion or 5.57 times our GDP of $14.59 trillion.
It is our belief that the United States for all intents and purposes is bankrupt and Americans need to take steps immediately to protect themselves from the potential loss of the purchasing power of their U.S. Dollars.
NIA believes the largest financial crisis in history is ahead of us as a direct result of the U.S. government unwilling to accept a much needed recession. We are now at a point where our national debt is impossible to pay off. Due to rising interest payments on our national debt, it is unlikely the U.S. will be able to balance its budget ever again.
Foreigners will eventually stop lending the U.S. money and the Federal Reserve will most likely have to print the money to fund our deficit spending out of thin air.
Our goal is to help as many Americans as possible become aware of the disaster we are rapidly approaching. In our opinion, the wealth of most Americans could get wiped out during the next decade, but it will be an opportunity for a small percentage of Americans to become wealthy by investing into companies that historically have prospered in an inflationary environment, such as Gold and Silver miners and Agriculture producers.

NIA Projects Future U.S. Food Price Increases
The National Inflation Association today announced the release of its report about NIA's projections of future U.S. food price increases due to the massive monetary inflation being created by the Federal Reserve's $600 billion quantitative easing. This report was written by NIA's President Gerard Adams, who believes food inflation will take over in 2011 as America's greatest crisis. According to Mr. Adams, making mortgage payments will soon be the last thing on the minds of all Americans. We currently have a currency crisis that could soon turn into hyperinflation and a complete societal collapse.
"For every economic problem the U.S. government tries to solve, it always creates two or three much larger catastrophes in the process," said Adams. "Just like we predicted this past December, the U.S. dollar index bounced in early 2010 and has been in free-fall ever since. Bernanke's QE2 will likely accelerate this free-fall into a complete U.S. dollar rout," warned Adams.
NIA projects that at the average U.S. grocery store it will soon cost $11.43 for one ear of corn, $23.05 for a 24 oz loaf of wheat bread, $62.21 for a 32 oz package of Domino Granulated Sugar, $24.31 for a 32 fl oz container of soy milk, $77.71 for a 11.30 oz container of Folgers Classic Roast Coffee, $45.71 for a 64 fl oz container of Minute Maid Orange Juice, and $15.50 for a Hershey's Milk Chocolate 1.55 oz candy bar. NIA also projects that by the end of this decade, a plain white men's cotton t-shirt at Wal-Mart will cost $55.57.
NIA's special U.S. food price projection report is now available to download for free by clicking here.
The report highlights how despite cotton rising by 54%, corn rising by 29%, soybeans rising by 22%, orange juice rising by 17%, and sugar rising by 51% during the months of September and October alone, these huge commodity price increases have yet to make their way into America's grocery stores because corporations have been reluctant to pass these price increases along to the consumer. In today's dismal economy, no retailer wants to be the first to dramatically raise food prices. However, NIA expects all retailers to soon substantially raise food prices at the same time, which will ensure that this Holiday shopping season will be the worst in recorded American history.

State PUC 'Gurus' Recommend Consolidation Of Dispatch Centers
PUC: Merging 911 call centers would save lives
By Leslie Bridgers
Staff writerHALLOWELL — The state should cover some costs for local dispatch centers to consolidate with regional 911 call centers, the Public Utilities Commission recommends.
The commission believes getting local dispatch centers to consolidate voluntarily with one of 17 regional call centers would reduce costs and improve public safety.
Many municipalities are reluctant to give up control of their dispatching services, however, and will need incentives to do so, the commission wrote in a letter to legislators.
The PUC made a final recommendation Monday to the Legislature on how to consolidate the number of 911 call centers in the state from 26 to 17 and improve emergency dispatching services.
All emergency calls in the state are answered at designated 911 call centers, called public-safety answering points. Many are then transferred to local dispatchers who alert police, fire and rescue departments.

Excessive taxes
Tax Fiasco
I have attended the last half dozen or so council meetings to try to find out why my taxes rose $400+ this year. I have listened to a lot of double speak about incorrect future Tif calculations and excessive overlays along with often contradictory statements about whether the taxes were committed or not. None of these explanations tell the whole story.
I think I finally understand what happened. Some of our Councilors weren't fiscally responsible...they spent money we didn't have, and in order to hide the excessive spending and make the numbers work , used the valuation adjustment and mill rate decrease to hide the true tax increase. The fact is we have been living beyond our means.
I think some Councilors are still unaware of the overspending. .I have heard taxpayer after taxpayer take the podium to give their story and tell councilors to cut taxes (lower spending). Councilors will nod in agreement then go on and vote as usual, spending to update "backup" fire engines or to fill a "Full Time" Economic directors position without pondering the sense in waiting until the financial dust settles. Could this be why only a handful of our Towns people go to the meetings? Has anyone even done a Cost-Benefit Analysis on filling the Economic Directors position?
We all have been warned about the shortfalls coming down the pike next year. I think it would be prudent to put a freeze on all discretionary spending TODAY and start looking at services we need to cut to balance next years budget... I DON'T WANT ANOTHER 400 DOLLAR SURPRISE NEXT YEAR....

Want To Know More About Airline Safety? Here Is A Great Starting Point
Airline Industry News
|
Please take the time to read the letter below before reading Jerry's article:
Flight 3407 group finds ally on safety
By Jerry Zremski
NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF
Published:October 27, 2010, 12:00 AM
WASHINGTON — Regional airlines aren’t perceived as being as safe as their big-name partners, a business travelers group and the Families of Continental Flight 3407 stressed Tuesday at a National Transportation Safety Board symposium on the relationship between the two kinds of air carriers.
When the Business Travel Coalition surveyed its members, one respondent noted that at least one company keeps a “black list” that includes “certain carriers that they won’t allow their employees to fly on,” said Kevin Mitchell, the group’s chairman.
Also at the symposium, John Kausner — whose daughter, Ellyce, was one of 50 people killed in the February 2009 crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 in Clarence Center — noted that his daughter bought her ticket on Continental’s Web site without knowing that the plane would be flown by a regional pilot who never would have been hired by Continental.
That airline — Colgan Air — “passed the buck” after the accident, as did Continental and the Federal Aviation Administration, Kausner said.
“And make no mistake about it: It’s all about the buck,” Kausner added.
John H. Prater, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, said major airlines have laid off highly paid, experienced pilots while contracting with regionals that hire pilots at far lower salaries.
“The industry turned its back on pilots with 5,000, 8,000, 10,000 hours of experience,” Prater said. Meanwhile, regional airlines know that those laid-off pilots “don’t want to work for these food stamp wages, so they say we’ll hire pilots right out of school.”
In response, Roger Cohen, president of the Regional Airline Association, insisted there’s “one level of safety” for the regional airlines and the major carriers.
“Every carrier does recognize that it’s bad for business not to be as safe as you can be,” Cohen said.
Meanwhile, John Meenan, CEO of the Air Transport Association, which represents major airlines, stressed that the declining number of accidents is proof that the commercial aviation system is safe.
But the last six fatal commercial plane crashes in the United States involved regionals. And Deborah A. P. Hersman, chairwoman of the safety board, emphasized that accidents are “learning opportunities” that the industry and the government can examine to make the system even safer.
The crash of Flight 3407 has proved to be just that, prompting legislation to require better pilot training and improved safety measures. Included in that new law is a provision requiring airlines to reveal exactly which regional airline will be operating the flight before a passenger buys a ticket.
“The families created the momentum behind the legislation signed by the president this summer,” Hersman said.
Tuesday, the families got evidence that they are not alone in voicing concerns about a safety gap at the regionals, which are contract operators that handle flights for the majors.
Two-thirds of corporate travel managers surveyed said business travelers had expressed concerns about the safety differences between major and regional airlines.
“Indeed, a majority of corporations indicates that they would be willing to pay much higher air fares in return for higher safety standards at the regional airlines,” the Business Travel Coalition said in its survey report.
In addition, more than three-quarters of the 212 travel managers surveyed this month said business travelers are often confused about who’s really flying their airplane.
In response to the safety concerns, the airline industry has pushed back.
In fact, the FAA appointed a Regional Airline Association safety official to head a panel beginning work on a proposed rule to put tougher pilot experience standards into effect, based on the law passed this summer, and that panel recommended watering down the requirement that new co-pilots have 1,500 hours of experience.
The Flight 3407 families have fought for that requirement and made another push for it Tuesday. More than 40 members of the families group — the largest to travel to Washington yet — attended the forum.
Leaders of the group said they would continue to press the FAA for the full 1,500-hour standard and might even expand their efforts to push to make the major airlines legally liable for safety problems at their regional partners.
“This is a determined, amazing group of people,” said Kevin Kuwik, who led the families’ lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill. “And we’re not going to go away.”

Can You Believe This? What Next?
AND WHERE IS HE GETTING THE $200,000,000 A DAY THAT IT WILL COST?
by Sher Zieve,
Why do Obama and his entourage have to stay in the Taj Mahal?(Nov. 3, 2010) — Despite yesterday’s election, it is now blatantly obvious that Obama & Co neither cares about the United States of America nor its people. Today, the US tyrant–along with an estimated 50 jumbo jets full of his 3,000- person entourage–will fly Air Force One (followed by the second AF One and Marine One copters) to Mumbai, India where he and his merry minions will take over the entire Taj Mahal and other hotels. The now fully-visible-to-the-entire-world hedonist and “Neroistic” monarch Obama will spend at least $200 Millions PER DAY of OUR money to indulge his every whim and fantasy. As members of his now wholly-owned media are traveling with him, any news about this grotesque and extreme extravagant waste of taxpayer money–especially considering the US’ current financial disaster brought on principally by this same “monarch”–is virtually, if not literally, criminal. This sort of trip is unprecedented in US history and leads me to the question “Is The Obama planning to become a pasha-in-exile or is he essentially moving the USA Executive Branch–which was usurped in the first place–to another country, namely India?”

Remember November 2010 An Election Montage
Our new video mash-up captures what this election was about - the state of the economy, jobs, and government overspending -- not party devotion.
Voters are anxiously searching for elected officials - regardless of political affiliation - who understand the consequences of government overspending and will respond to economic uncertainty by governing and budgeting responsibly.
Americans are looking for leaders who will restore economic certainty and fiscal sanity.
Will the leaders elected Tuesday respond to the call?
Like with everything, two weeks from now you will have forgotten what it was all about and so will they.

Lisbon – On Monday, November 1, Kenneth Healey, Principal of Lisbon High
School, presented the first “Helping Hand Awards” of the school
year to three outstanding students, Paula Caron, Jordan Beauparlant and Dillion
Pesce. All students are members of the Young Adult Volunteer
program and Community Service Club at LHS. Students greeted over
two hundred people and conducted tours on Saturday, October 2 during the Open
House of the newly refurbished high school.
The Helping Hand Award was established at Lisbon High School in 2008. The award is supported by LHS Corporate community partner, Subway of Lisbon Falls. Recipients received gift certificates to Subway and were recognized for going above and beyond by volunteering with school events, assisting with class projects, and volunteering in the community. PW SUGG GIRLS SOCCER RESULTS 10/29
On Friday 10/29, Lisbon Sugg girls’ soccer played against St Michael’s and tied 2X2
The
scenario of the last game of the Greyhounds was not the best, the field
was soaked, muggy and slippery; nevertheless Lisbon played one of their
best games in this season, dominating the ball possession most of the
time and shooting uncountable shots in the Saints’ goal.
Defense
line battled passionately to stop the opponent’s attack over and over,
including Capitan Kailyn Hill, who led the Defense, Left Fullback
Mikayla Yanez and Right Fullback Taylor Feehan. Greyhound’s midfielders
took over the midfield by marking and stopping St Michael’s midfielders,
including Left Midfielder Abby Gamache, Center Midfielder Chandler
Riordan and Right Midfielder Drew Stewart-Staples.
Offensively,
the Greyhounds were superior today. Left Forward Katherine George,
Right Forward Loren Grant and Center Forward Ashley Conrad pressured St
Michael’s defense enough to complicate them more than once and created
several opportunities of goal. LF Katherine George had a very clear and
well directed shot blocked by the goalie. RF Loren Grant kept an intense
rhythm of game by running the whole game and CF Ashley Conrad, once
more displayed a great talent by dribbling passing many players several
times, shooting many times in goal and scoring Lisbon’s two goals ,
which came from two powerful shots from 20 yards.
