An Accident Waiting To Happen

CITIZEN’S PUT AT RISK

On the ballot in June 2011, there was a bond issue to repair the bridge and road on Fisher Road.  The bond passed and the money was appropriated to repair both the road and the bridge.  This bridge was in such poor shape the town was concerned with the state closing the road.  However, they were not concerned enough to take any action to protect or post warning signs for vehicles traveling on this road.  Today, I traveled on the Fisher Road to see for myself the improvements on the bridge and road and was shocked to learn nothing had been done.  I am including three pictures of the condition of the bridge and road today.

It is the primary responsibility of Evil Eldridge and his golden boy, Ryan Leighton, to put in motion the task of repairing the bridge and road.  Once again, these two individuals have neglected the residents of Lisbon by failing to post warning signs or getting the bridge and road repaired.  This lack of concerned for the residents of Lisbon and other individuals who utilize the Fisher Road is distressing.  God forbid the bridge goes out or falls down and causes injuries to anyone.

Does the Town of Lisbon have to wait until the incompetence of Eldridge or Leighton causes a fatality before this Town Council takes action to remove these two individuals?   The next question is where is the money taxpayers appropriated for this project and why has nothing been down.  I understood the money to repair the bridge was appropriated last year and the bond added more money to include the repair of the road.  In any case, the funding has been there since June and the bridge is deteriorating rapidly as indicated by the pictures below.

Citizens of Lisbon stop hiding in the corner and come out and voice your concerns at the next Town Council meeting, Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 7:00 PM at the Town Office.

Lisbon PWS Students Attend Service-Learning @ Beaver Park‏

LISBON PWS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT AT BEAVER PARK

Beaver Park Ranger, Verla Brooks, guides students from Philip W. Sugg Middle School in Lisbon during a service-learning project.

Lisbon - Students at Philip W. Sugg (PWS) Middle School recently completed a service-learning project at Beaver Park in Lisbon.  Located off of Cotton Road, Beaver Park is a family oriented day use park that is used by residents and non-residents of Lisbon.  The project was initiated by teachers and staff at PWS, consisting of Ms. Sue Welch, Mrs. Veronica Koza, and Mrs. Karen Bergeron.

Under the direction of Verla Brooks, park ranger, the PWS students dismantled a bridge that was in much needed repair.  From there, students transported materials and select natural resources to the bridge site on the trail.  Beginning with the moment the students arrived on the work site and throughout the process, student showed great initiative and motivation to overcome the natural obstacles and to get the job done right.  "I am not surprised by the great effort and results these students put forth on this project, in fact, they do this everyday in some of the most difficult and challenging tasks here at school.  I am very proud of these students and excellent work they have done for the betterment of our school and community," said Assistant Principal Thomas Landberg.

The Park also provides a cross-country course for the PWS and Lisbon High School cross country teams, hosting two events annually. Be sure to visit Beaver Park to experience the natural beauty of the Maine woods here in Lisbon.

November 8th Charter Changes

  November 8th Charter Changes

                                   Question 8    (NO)

On November 8th the residents of Lisbon will be asked to vote on 8 changes to the Lisbon Charter and also give guidance to the council by answering one advisory question.

Of these changes question 8 dealing with revising the recall procedures for removing a councilor is by far the most important and potentially the most devastating change proposed by the council.

In my opinion, the existing recall barrier that requires
voter turnout to be 30 percent of the turnout of the last presidential or gubernatorial election is almost mathematically impossible to hurdle. Making it even more difficult for the public to remove an undesirable councilor is not the answer. This will only make councilors less responsive to the wishes of their constituents.

If the Council really wants to improve the recall procedure, they should remove the existing 30 percent barrier and abide by the wishes of the majority vote.

If we pass question 8 we will in effect be ending our own ability to remove an unsuitable councilor.

I will be voting “NO” on all 8 questions and approving only the advisory question. I want to keep control in the hands of the people.

Respectfully

Citizens of Lisbon Beware Of This Year's Ballot

BEWARE CHARTER CHANGES

Citizens of Lisbon beware of this year’s ballot; it contains charter changes which are detrimental to Lisbon and you.  These changes were not created by an independent Charter Commission but by the Town Council themselves or should I say Bowie (Puppet Master) and Evil Eldridge. Every one of these changes serves to advance the agenda of Bowie and Eldridge.  Below I will try and explain each one to you:

Question 1 – The charter today allows the town to legally steal your property and what this question is asking if you want them to legally steal your personal property as well.

Question 2 – The change is trying to clarify the time limits are tolled during court review.  The court system is such there cannot be any time limits because the court determines when and where they review cases.  The town is trying to kill petitions and force residents to start over again.

Question 3 – This is my all-time favorite.  This question promotes cronyism.  This gives the power to the town manager (Evil Eldridge) to hire or promotes anyone of the good old boys.  This also makes it legal for him to hire less qualified individuals over highly qualified individuals.  You know like hiring Ryan Leighton who is not a licensed professional engineer with the state of Maine or Chief Sean Galipeau who does not have a Bachelor’s degree as required by most Fire Chief’s in Maine.  In both cases the town hired them with the condition they get their respective education and neither one has done so.  Do we really want to give the town manager the power to hire less than qualified individuals?  My answer is no I want to stop the “Good Old Boys” game.

Question 4 – This question is as dumb as they are because the State of Maine required town assessors’ be certified by the state so why do we need to add it to the charter?

Question 5 – The Town Council appoints a Board of Assessment Review Board but in its absence the council can perform the tasks.  Why even appoint a Board of Assessment Review Board in the first place?  Bowie and Eldridge want the power to take over this function.  The purpose of an independent body was to ensure we have no conflict of interest and residents receive a fair assessment review.  Now they want to take this away.  Control and power is what they are asking the residents to relinquish.

Question 6 – This is a very interesting question.  Actually it should read “How in the world or under what circumstances would a capital expenditure be allowed to lapse?”  If the citizens took the time to approve the monies for a project or capital gain how is it possible to have that funds lapse.  The only reason for a capital expenditure to lapse is if management is not doing their job or misappropriation of funds.  I cannot believe Bowie and Eldridge think the residents are that stupid.

Question 7 – I do not know about you but I am not an accountant genius.  I cannot tell you what this says but I can tell you this, if Bowie and Eldridge are involved it cannot be good for the town of Lisbon.  Look at the other seven questions and then ask yourself “with their track record can this be good of me?”  My answer is no way.

Question 8 – This is another of my very favorite.  This question deals with the recall procedure.  Bowie and Eldridge are asking the residents to add additional hurdles to remove a councilor.  This is entirely useless to begin with because there is no way possible to recall a councilor now; adding more requirements makes no sense.  There is no way to recall a councilor in the town of Lisbon because there is no way to get 30% of voters who voted in the last gubernatorial elections to come out in vote in a regular election yet a special election.  This is the safe guard built into the charters to save councilors just like it did with Bowie.  The majority of voters voted to remove Bowie at the Special Election but there were not 30% of the voters required so Bowie remains councilor even through the majority of voters who voted wanted him removed.

As you can see, these Charter Changes are meant to provide the town council and town manager with additional power and control over the citizen of the town of Lisbon.  This is not a good thing and when you go to the polls on November 8th vote NO on all these questions.

HOWEVER, THE BALLOT DOES CONTAIN ONE IMPORTANT QUESTION AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE BALLOT.  DO YOU WANT A SAY IN HOW MUCH MONEY IS BEING SPENT BY THE TOWN.  THE QUESTION IS DO YOU WANT TO VOTE ON THE MUNICIPAL BUDGET.  COUNCILOR BICKFORD AND COTE TRIED TO GET THIS AS A CHARTER CHANGE BUT BOWIE AND THE PUPPETS REJECTED AND DECIDED TO PUT IT ON THE BALLOT AS AN ADVISORY REFERENDUM QUESTION.  PLEASE VOTE YES ON THIS QUESTION TO PUT A STOP TO INFLATED BUDGETS.

Lisbon's November Specimen Ballot

Nov Ballot

America, Has Become A War Economy, Obama: the most pro-war president in history. Afghanistan, cluster bombs, Iraq, Libya, obama, Pakistan, predator drone, pro-war, war, war crimes, Yemen ‏

Lisbon,

What's it take to get a Nobel Peace Prize these days, right?

President Obama ordered more drone strikes and has had more troops
in Afghanistan than at any point during the Bush administration,
not that I'm defending THAT criminal.

However, it does seem that what Bush was criticized for, Obama wins
prizes for in going to new extremes, literally.

Having trouble believing it? Watch and learn...
Obama: the most pro-war president in history

And the Nobel Peace Prize goes to...
Barack Obama is fighting wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Libya. He is spending more on the US military than any previous president. If he serves for eight years as president, he will spend over $8 trillion on defense, including the hidden costs of the war economy. Fifty per cent of all US tax dollars is spent on the US military. America spends more on defense than the combined total military budget of every other country in the world.

Blonde Horse Rider

A blonde decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no
lessons, nor prior experience. She mounts the horse unassisted, and the
horse immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady and
rhythmic pace, but the blonde begins to slide from the saddle.

In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm
grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but she
slides down the horse's side anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly
impervious to its slipping rider.

Finally, giving up her frail grip, the blonde attempts to leap away from
the horse and throw herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot has
become entangled in the stirrup, she is now at the mercy of the horse's
pounding hooves as her head is struck against the ground over and over.

As her head is battered against the ground, she is mere moments away
from unconsciousness when to her great fortune... Frank, the Walmart
greeter, sees her dilemma and unplugs the horse.

And you thought all they did was say Hello. *

Election 2012 Made Simple

Silence is often misinterpreted but never misquoted!

The folks who are getting the free stuff, don't like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.

The folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop, and the folks who are getting the free stuff
want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already getting!

Now... The people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff have told the people who are RECEIVING the free stuff, that the people who are PAYING for the free stuff, are being mean, prejudiced, and racist.

So... The people who are GETTING the free stuff have been convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff, and giving them the free stuff in the first place.

We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff.

Now understand this. All great democracies have committed financial suicide somewhere between 200 and 250 years after being founded. The reason?
The voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange for electing them.

The United States officially became a Republic in 1776, 235 years ago. The number of people now getting free stuff outnumbers the people paying for the free stuff. We have one chance to change that. In 2012. Failure to change that spells the end of the United States as we know it.

ELECTION 2012 IS COMING
A Nation of Sheep Breeds a Government of Wolves!

I'M 100% for PASSING THIS ON!!!

Let’s take a stand!!!
Obama: Gone!
Borders: Closed!
Language: English only
Culture: Constitution, and the Bill of Rights!
Drug Free: Mandatory Drug Screening before Welfare!
NO freebies to: Non-Citizens!

We the people are coming
Only 86% will send this on. Should be 100%. What will you do?

Cain He Make It? The Godfather's 999 Plan To Save America And The Race Is On!!!

Say “No” to Mitt Romney and the Corrupt Republican Establishment

“NOTHING MORE THAN A STOOGE”

by Lawrence Sellin, ©2011
(Oct. 12, 2011) — Over one year ago, a Republican chairman from a major state told a constituent that the Party leadership had already been decided that Mitt Romney would be their nominee for President in 2012.
Just like it was McCain’s “turn” in 2008, it is Romney’s turn in 2012, and pending unforeseen circumstances, expect Mitt to get the nod.
The Republican leadership will also vigorously oppose any Republican “outsider” or Tea Party candidate with the same vitriol and dirty tricks as rabid Obama supporters, albeit done haughtily and deviously behind the scenes.
The Republican Party no longer believes in elections and does not trust the American people.

The night of Herman Cain’s “9-9-9 Plan”

By Chris Moody | The Ticket
There was one clear winner from Tuesday's Republican presidential debate, based on the simple metrics of name recognition: businessman Herman Cain's "9-9-9 Plan."
Virtually all the candidates at the debate table had something to say about Cain's plan to replace the tax code with three, flat nine-percent federal taxes on consumption, business and income. Cain, once delegated to the remote wings of the debate stage, has enjoyed a surge in the polls ever since he won the straw poll in Orlando, Fla., last month, and at the first debate since he joined former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the top tier, Cain and his policy proposals took up more of the debate's time than the ideas floated by any other candidate.
Of course, this isn't to say that any of them praised Cain's idea. Far from it. In fact, everyone who had an opportunity took shots at the plan.
Former Utah Gov. Huntsman reduced it to "a catchy phrase" and joined former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum in saying it would never be signed into law.

Where's My Shovel???

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for ...hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from God.

You have two choices... smile and close this page,
or pass this along to someone else to share the lesson .
God bless US All!

Lying Scientists, corporate science, gmo, independent science, jeffrey m. smith, monsanto, rBGH

In this brief video Jeffrey M. Smith, author of 'Seeds of
Deception', explains the difference between corporate science and
independent science. The difference between the two can only lead
you to call the former a bunch of liars.

The foods and drugs these corporate scientists lie about affect our
immune systems, our reproductive systems, and our overall health.
Basically, they'd feed us poison if the company told them to sell
it to us, and that's exactly what they're doing...

RIGGED RESEARCH from NO GMO on Vimeo.

"These guys have bad science down to a science."
You may have heard the FDA and food industry claims that genetically modified (GM) foods are safe, properly tested, and necessary to feed a hungry world. UNTRUE! Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are one of the most dangerous and radical changes to our food supply. These largely unregulated ingredients found in 60-70% of the foods in the US, are well worth the effort to avoid them.

Many consumers in the US mistakenly believe that the FDA approves GM foods through rigorous, in-depth, long-term studies. In reality, the agency has absolutely no safety testing requirements. Instead the agency relies on research from companies like Monsanto, research that is meticulously designed to avoid finding problems.

It’s easy to understand the FDA’s industry-friendly policy on regulation of GMOs when you see the revolving door between agency regulators and the companies they regulate. The White House mandate to the FDA (under the first George Bush) was to promote biotechnology and the person in charge of developing the agency’s policy at that time was a former Monsanto attorney, who later returned to Monsanto as their vice president.

The FDA has claimed it was not aware of any information showing that GM crops were different “in any meaningful or uniform way,” from non-GMO crops and therefore didn’t require testing. But 44,000 internal FDA documents made public by a lawsuit show that this was a complete lie. The overwhelming consensus among the FDA’s own scientists was that GM foods were quite different and could lead to unpredictable and hard-to-detect allergens, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems. It turns out that FDA scientists, who had urged superiors to require long-term studies, were ignored. See, Failed Government Regulation.

Even though evidence of this apparent fraud at the FDA was presented at a Washington, D.C. press conference in 1999 with major media in attendance, the media didn’t alert the public. In fact, most Americans know so little about this subject, that only about 1 in 4 consumers even know if they’ve ever eaten a GM food in their lives, even though the vast majority of processed foods contain derivatives from the four major GM crops: soy, corn, cottonseed and canola. See, GM Foods at a Glance.

Cover-up? Komen for the Cure denies BPA link to breast cancer - follow the money‏

The pinkwashing is all around you -- pink packaged products that claim to give money to Komen for the Cure to "find a cure" for cancer.
It goes on year after year, always with the promise that a cure is just around the corner if we all just poney up a little more cash or buy more pink stuff.
And yet, behind the curtain of the Komen organization, the real causes of cancer are vehemently denied. BPA? What problem? Toxic chemicals in perfumes and personal care products? Aw, who cares? Vitamin D deficiency? It's not important, they seem to say.
Well today Komen for the Cure has been exposed for denying the mass of scientific evidence that BPA promotes breast cancer. Yes, the same BPA found in the food cans and soda cans peddled by the very same junk food giants that donate money to the Komen organization. Follow the money and you'll learn even more:

the midfield, was able to find their rhythm, maintain control of the
ball, and develop numerous scoring opportunities. Winthrop fought like
warriors and demonstrated unwavering determination right to the end
while Lisbon managed a record 21 shots on goal. Scoring for the
'Hounds, the dependable midfielder Jake Angelico netted his second
goal for the season while Kyle Welsh and Nick Huston each put two into
the back of the net, and sharpshooter Austin Fournier got his second
hat trick this year. Rookie 'Hounds like Brandon Bartlett, Jared
Williams, and Jeremy Pelligrini did not disappoint either as they
denied Winthrop from even making a single shot on goal and thereby
marked the teams 2nd shutout. The [3-4] Greyhounds have finished the
first round of games and will next have their rematch with Gardner on
the opponents field, Thursday, October 13.

Middle School Girls Soccer Results, 10/11/11, PWS vs Winthrop‏

On Tuesday 10/11, Lisbon Sugg Middle School girls’ soccer celebrated their
fourth victory in a row defeating Winthrop 2x0 on their turf. Defenders
Chandler Riordan, Sydney Douglas and Conchita Thomas kept the game in the
opponent’s field all the time allowing Goalie Ali Sult touch the ball only
twice the whole match. Emma Lavesque, Ciera Miller and Jordan Gamache also
helped the defense to keep Lisbon’s goal untouched.

Midfielders rocked the middle out, by repossessing the ball and making
several good passes to the forwards, including Abby Gamage, who also had a
good shot close to the end that almost ended up in the net, and Kipri Steele
who fought for the ball aggressively. Sam Buldoc, Anna Wiley, and Kashmir
Owen helped the middle as well.

Katherin George led the Offense line by carrying the ball skillfully and
scoring Lisbon’s two goals. Both were made by taking two powerful long
distance shots, giving the goalie no chance to touch the ball. Hope Morse
made good assists and created many opportunities at the goal, including a
crossed shot in the first half that almost ended up in the net. Makayla
Tilley played passionately in the attack and Emma Houle used her speed to
get to the goal line and assist her team mates.

Lisbon Sugg middle school girls soccer next game is on Thursday, 10/13/2011
against the powerful Gardiner, on their turf.

Woman And A Fork

Woman and a Fork
There was a young woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things 'in order,' she contacted her Pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes.

She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in.

Everything was in order and the Pastor was preparing to leave when the young woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.

'There's one more thing,' she said excitedly..

'What's that?' came the Pastor's reply.

'This is very important,' the young woman continued. 'I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand.'

The Pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing quite what to say.
That surprises you, doesn't it?' the young woman asked.

'Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request,' said the Pastor.

The young woman explained. 'My grandmother once told me this story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of encouragement. In all my years of attending socials and dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming...like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance!'

So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the fork?' Then I want you to tell them: 'Keep your fork ..the best is yet to come.'

The Pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the young woman good-bye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the young woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice her age, with twice as much experience and knowledge. She KNEW that something better was coming.

At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket andthey saw the cloak she was wearing and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the Pastor heard the question, 'What's with the fork?' And over and over he smiled.

During his message, the Pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the young woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. He told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.

He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork let it remind you, ever so gently, that the best is yet to come.
Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. Cherish the time you have, and the memories you share.Being friends with someone is not an opportunity, but a sweet responsibility.
Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND...and I'll bet this will be anEmail they do remember, every time they pick up a fork!

And just remember...keep your fork!

The BEST is yet to come!

God Bless You

Occupy Wall Street is on its way to being co-opted‏...co-opted, hijacked, obama, occupy wall st., OWS, protests, Webster Tarpley

Lisbon,

Without direction and specific demands the Occupy Wall Street
protests are vulnerable to being hijacked by groups and
organizations that are, themselves, creatures of Wall Street.

Opportunists lie in wait and jump at chances to muddy the message
or even redirect and steer the movement.

Webster Griffin Tarpley explains who these groups are and how
they'll do it.
Occupy Wall Street is on its way to being co-opted

Without direction, OWS Protests are a 'blank slate'
On October 5, an OWS march included corporatized labor unions, the Soros front group MoveOn.org, assorted socialist and community groups and other variegated spawn of establishment foundations and NGOs. Predictably, the corporate media played up this aspect of the march from Foley Square to the Financial District and presented a distorted view of OWS, even though the opportunists were in the minority.

The Occupy Wall Street website has openly embraced the likes of MoveOn.org, AFL-CIO, and SEIU, all of whom financially backed Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and have supported his bid for re-election in 2012.

Of course, the irony of ‘Occupy Wall Street’ leaders seeking alliances with Obama campaign front groups is the fact that Obama himself is the ultimate creature of Wall Street. His 2008 campaign was financed by Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley. Obama is even more reliant on Wall Street for his 2012 campaign and his cabinet is stuffed with former Wall Street insiders.

Lisbon you can learn a lot from this presentation about how and what is currently going on is not really correct and has no direction.  Best to keep Lisbon Police Chief David T. Brooks & his 'hand picked' Goon Squad,  out of it as he is nothing but a well paid liar.  Paid by your hard earned money that you pay in the form of Taxes to support his legalized/illegal corruption schemes.  And not to worry in the least bit, just stay tuned to your favorite local news source as we will be presenting the information very clearly here in the near future.     Haven't we done a Great Job so Far?
